About this deal

I wanted the cage at the same height as before (on top of a 78cm ish cupboard) so the front access door is about waist height. But that means it’s not easy to reach or use the top door. Without standing on a stool or something. Bedding panels can be attached to the bars to stop bedding falling out, or to have deeper bedding, or to reduce the height of the cage (eg cardboard or Perspex). If using something like Perspex ones that bolt on, it would be easier to attach those before adding any substrate. As I found the hard way! I dropped a screw and it took me about twenty minutes to find it – it’s amazing how they can just disappear. I had to take a load of bedding out again to find it. And then the same thing happened again with a wing nut!

If you enjoyed learning about the Savic Hamster Plaza and want to explore different cage options for your tiny critters, you may want to read about:On the other hand, it’s easier to add the first half of the bedding into the base before you put the bars on. So the easiest option is probably to attach The bedding panels to the bars, before putting the bars on top of the base. Eg It's an upgrade for Raffy (who has always needed a bit more space being a very active Syrian). So the idea is to keep the layout exactly the same as he has now, for familiarity and so the upgrade doesn't stress him. The wood shelf in his current cage won't be long enough so have sent for another wood shelf and will re use the hemp mat from his current shelf on top of it (so it smells familiar) and add a bit more to fill in the gap. The screens allow you to have a much clearer view of your hamster in their enclosure, and also allow for much better photographs with no bars in the way. Combined with teh bolt-on screens these screens also allow you to create areas of very deep bedding and reduce the chance of bar climbing and bar biting. Will These Screens Work For You ? These cage screens are custom made to fit round a Savic Plaza. They can be useful if you have a problem with draughts, want to prevent bar biting, or want to create an area of deep bedding. The screens are made from crystal clear Perspex/acrylic and are available in 4 different heights to suit your needs. They are specifically designed for the Plaza to include cut-outs for the end clips which hold the cage onto the base and also for the door clips.

Wooden hamster cage: A good choice if you are happy to get your toolbox out and build something for your hamster. The wood must be untreated so that the hamster can chew on it and no glue must be used as it can be poisonous.Surprisingly, once it was set up in the same place as the previous standard Plaza cage, it didn't seem to take up much more room - although obviously is longer and deeper. There are some before and after photos of that on the video below. These clear acrylic screens are custom made to fit a Savic Plaza and replace the wall bars that are supplied with the cage. The “Savic Plaza Complete Cage Screens” transform the look of your Savic Plaza making it look like there is nothing between you and your hamster. As it's a cage upgrade, rather than preparing for a new hamster, I'll need to do the changeover and set up in one day. Mainly because I don't have room to have both cages set up at the same time! So at the moment it's just preparation for a set up day some time over the next week. ie waiting for the new shelf mainly. I already have quite a few items to use in the cage.
