About this deal

When I researched the issue, people were saying that the whole mecahnicals of the shifter (cable pull) and the motion of the RD were the same as 5800 and 6800. So if you plan on a swap, ignor the 'speed' of the parts and go for the latest generation. It's a groupset that can give you what you want from a mid-tier road bike. Sure, there are a few niggles but they are tiny and can be overlooked. Both 105 and Tiagra are available in 165mm, 170mm, 172.5mm and 175mm crank lengths. Diminutive riders can also choose a 160mm 105 R7000 crankset Thanks Disfunctional T...& RW, I'll keep an eye on the shifting. Seems OK on the bike stand but past experience tells me that 'on the road' is adifferent matter. It's a Shadow mech and the angle of the cable already looks a bit contorted when attached to below the pinch bolt...

The Tiagra short cage will get you up to a 30t cog. In their long cage variations they will both get you up to a 34t, and if you frequent internet forums, you’ll find people have managed to take the 105 version well beyond that. With a Cycling Weekly subscription you can improve your performance with our expert practical, nutritional and training tips With the 11-speed 105 groupset, there has been quite a lot of technology which has filtered down from the top groupsets of Dura-Ace and Ultegra. The Tiagra groupset is heavier. As with pretty much everything in road cycling, you pay more to have lighter components. Dual Brake Levers - Mechanical

The new 105 brakes are based on the Ultegra and Dura-Ace SLR-EV Dual Pivot design. The design is a symmetrical design which allows more control and power over your braking. They also use a new pad design that is pretty grippy regardless of the conditions that you’re riding in. confirm that. My daily came with Tiagra 4700, swapped the calipers to 105, rear derailleur to Ultegra and the crankset to Campy Comp Ultra Overtorque, bought for silly money in a sale. All works fab, saves about 380g in all. I’ve spent way more time in the bike trade than anyone should reasonably want to. In that time I’ve wanted to make cycling jargon and marketing easier to cut through to help people get the bike of their dreams. Admittedly, the Tiagra shifting isn't as light but it's forgivable considering the price difference. Could you combine the new Tiagra triple chainset and shifter with the rest of the 105 group for a massive spread of 33 gear ratios? Say, 27 useable, and closer-grouped, gear ratios? Would this require a long cage 105 derailleur?

I noticed the article didn't mention Shimano's lowest end group, Tourney, did Shimano stopped making that group? There is no need to upgrade the components at once. You can choose to upgrade to Ultegra or Dura-Ace as they need replacing. I own several bikes; my favourite has to be my faithful Bianchi Infinito CV. We've been through a lot together - we've even been to Paris together...twice!. My first carbon bike. My first love. Does anyone know if the Tiagra hydraulic brifters would work with the br-ur300 flat mount disc brakes? The figures for 11spd are 2.7mm x 1.4 = ~3.78mm pitch. The mech ratio is the same 1.4 but the shifter is pulling less cable, so the chain movement is less.Whereas Tiagra is compatible with a 10-speed system. The large chainring is good for teeth between 46 and 52. Unfortunately we can no longer get hold of the HG50 cassette in the 11-32T ratio, but we do have plenty of other Shimano cassettes in the 11-32T ration that can be fitted and used instead. The nearest equivalent performance wise would be the HG400, these are SJSC part number 36278. Tiagra brakes have also seen a good amount of improvement and an increase in stopping power. However, they aren't of the same quality as 105.

New 10-speed TIAGRA provides serious entry-level riding performance with cascaded technology from top-tier lines. We have talked about this before, so we’ll be brief with this answer. A groupset is a group of parts that are all made to the same quality. The Tiagra brakes are impressive too. They don't fail to offer the stopping power riders want (and need). It is all dependant on whether or not you have a short or medium cage rear derailleur and if you are running a double or triple set up. If you have a double and a short cage derailleur then you could just about get away with an 11/30 but it will require some adjusting, if you have a medium cage derailleur then you could get away with up to an 11/32 with a double or 11/30 with a triple, it may work but I think you'd be pushing it to use an 11/32 with a triple ring set up. It will also be a little while longer before 11 speed becomes obsolete. With all the top tier Shimano groups being 11-speed you’ll find it easy to upgrade to them and this should help to make it easier to find parts in the future.
