About this deal

I recently read a research report on the top 20 worries amongst the population. I was surprised that worrying about whether we worry too much wasn’t even on the list. Everything from getting old, to the illness of a pet, to saving enough money did make the list, however. Let’s put it this way: you would never expect from a computer to solve your dating problems, would you? I have read many of this type of book but not learnt a great deal. This is logical, self explanatory and a very good read. There is no deep meanings or regression to the past. Read this book and if done properly, it will change your life for the better. Helped me with stress, anxiety and depression. Set a budget. One of the simplest and most effective steps you can take to reduce worry caused by your complex life is to budget your expenses. There's nothing mysterious or difficult about it: People who have everything taken care of for them, such as coddled children, end up ill-equipped to function in the adult world, which means that sometimes not helping is actually the best help you can give.

Excellent post — I think it's something we all struggle with. As you say, the triumph is to *recognize* the over-thinking and move toward doing. Not always easy, but definitely worth the effort.Just like Lester Burnham (see Chapter 6 above), you need to start feeling gratitude for every single moment of your stupid, little life.

And all of that feeling prepared, in control stuff? It’s really, well, all in my head. It’s a false sense of comfort. In reality, I can only think enough to be a reasonable, responsible, thoughtful person. Then other people are going to do what they do, and I can only count on my preparation to keep me grounded, not to have all the answers or to have control over the situation. P 19 if you can begin to see that your thoughts are not the real thing – they are just thoughts and thosethoughts they can't hurt you– Your entire life will begin to change Better than confining your decisions to your own biases, perspectives, and mental filters, commit to seeking support from loved ones. However, utilizing the power of your natural state – the state of healthy psychological functioning – is still the best thing you got.In the words of Einstein, “The solution to a problem will never come about from the same level of understanding that created the problem in the first place.” Sleepless nights came more regularly than I ever could have predicted. Confusion was my norm. Indecisiveness became expected. Uncertainty was my only certainty. Walking is exercise. Sports, Pilates, and playing with the dog are too. It doesn’t have to be training for the next Olympics. Just get moving, and get tired. 5. Become the ultimate skeptic.

Be rational. Often, people worry about things they have limited control over, such as whether or not they got a new job (after an interview) or what a new acquaintance really thought of them. These worries are hard to help completely, even though it's obvious that worrying won't change their outcomes. However, that doesn't mean you can't do your best to remind yourself not to worry. Make a conscious effort to focus your attention elsewhere, and let events take their course as best you can. Your Natural State Is the State of Happiness

Because we’ve acquired, through our lives, a set of behaviors which have raised a wall between ourselves and our “healthy psychological functioning.” They may ask questions like: “am I not liked?” , or “Is there something wrong with me?”. The best method to alleviate this type of thinking is to find assurances from ourselves. Find personal love and strength through what we think of ourselves and the things that we do for ourselves.

Now, don’t get us wrong: thinking constantly is a good thing; it can be an even better one if you are aware of the fact what thinking actually is. The best part about box breathing is that it can be done from anywhere at any time. All you need is the right mindset. What most people mean by “over-thinking” is ‘unproductive thinking’. Essentially spending far too much time thinking about things you do not or should not need to, to a point where it causes mental fatigue and presents possibilities most people wouldn’t worry about. Now, the problem is that while knowledge (the ability to solve familiar problems) exists within your processing brain, wisdom lies out of the reach of your processing mind and somewhere deep inside your free-flowing mode of thinking. The idea that we can control situations if we try hard enough is a false hope in most circumstances. However, because we naturally fear the unknown, it makes sense that we would try to find ways to make it more predictable. This is an unrealistic expectation and actually adds undue stress on our thinking. Once you can come to terms with that fact you cannot control every outcome, you will start to find relief from the need for control. But how often do we think about our thinking? When do we stop to question why we over-think, whether it’s productive, and how to overcome it? Organize your time. You can set a budget for your time just as you can set a budget for your money. Since you're trying to reduce worry rather than increase it, go into this process with a focus on maximizing your personal time, rather than cramming as much as you can into each day.
