These miniatures are supplied unpainted and require some assembly - we recommend using Citadel Glue and Paints. Once you’re confident of your mastery of the basics, the Recruit Manual goes on to suggest some additional units with which to expand the Space Marines and Necrons forces in the set, and even provides you with their datasheets and a new mission to play once you’ve done so! They, too, have very minimal mould line cleanup and a very beginner-friendly range as far as painting goes.

They look cool and will make your gaming set up look all the more complete should you paint them up in some fancy colours, but personally I don’t really see what’s wrong with a tape measure or a regular ruler.
