About this deal

The amount of detail, the soundstage, the dynamics - everything you want from a top notch record, it’s here. I scanned this board for consensus on this board and was ready to take this back without even listening to it. Side note, if you’re a Ludwig fan, and you like Rush, his cut of Moving Pictures is the only one I’ve heard that I’d say is maybe better than this. This pressing is great, yeah it doesn't have the separation of the OG, but this album is mixed and mastered so good, that even CD slams, so this is perfectly fine pressing for majority of fans.

I own another copy of this record and I will say that although the other pressing sounds good, it doesn't have nearly the amount of weight or power behind the music like this original does. I can’t disagree that the US original hits harder but the Euro non RL is still crispy and sounds great contrary to what you may have heard. There’s a bit of a fuzzy sound at times - hard to describe, and maybe it’s from the mastering, but hard to tell. It is however slightly pringled, slightly off centre and has a few pops on track 2 from a tiny blemish.

The master was of course made by Ludwig, but the cutting seem to be a straight transfer from the digital master. I haven't compared, but seriously doubt there would be any improvement with either a UK or US original as MOVLP043 sounds absolutely bloody brilliant. The band announced on October 9, 2012, via their Facebook page that they would be releasing a special 20th anniversary boxset to commemorate the group's debut album.

Ludwig even cited it when asked in an interview about the three best sounding records he's (re)mastered. One way or another, I also have the 20th anniversary press, and hearing that side by side with this, it’s like an entirely different album. I then found your post and i know you have always had decent gear so i thought 'hang on, something weird is going on. If there was ever an album I expected to be mixed crazy loud (not just compressed, I mean just plain loud too) it was this album. This seems mediocre on the level of my Opiate EP by Tool, also released in '92, and both releases feature Maynard, who is, at least in my experience, known for putting out audiophile-grade releases. It’s like this pressing is a cap gun and you’re 5 years old thinking cap guns are the shit, and then a cannon goes off in the yard next door.

I absolutely agree with all those people, but MOV did a reissue of the original UK vinyl AND the 20th anniversary. Sonic wise - it sounds great but exactly like the European original CD, which is why I assume the same digital master were used for both. I did an A/B of Take The Power Back from this pressing with the Tidal lossless version, and Tidal is way more dynamic and clear.Epic Records, a division of Sony music Entertainment, © 1992, 2015 Epic Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. Admittedly I haven't heard any pressed from the Bob Ludwig cut, but I know the material well and I'm not missing anything in detail and impact. Forum members have not been kind about the Rage Against The Machine, S/T album, 20th anniversary remaster in the thread about it. Recently picked this up, and my copy matches the picture exactly - an “A” that maybe looks like RL on the A side, and an “A” that is clearly an A on the B side. Coupled with how hard Rage's music goes in general, it really makes for a visceral rock 'n roll experience.
