About this deal

Tom Waits mentions 'Old Bushmills' in the song " Tom Traubert's Blues" (which was also covered by Rod Stewart). Do however indulge in the smooth arrival and development; it's perhaps too easy to sip your way through. Mouth: Very sweet, has a fullness in the mouth built entirely upon that sweetness that makes it seem sweeter, and takes that sherry flavour i'm not confident is on the nose and then makes you think of honey again.

This seems to me, to be a blended Scotch Whisky that matches up almost to my favourite Single Malt, the GlenDronach. I'm not normally a big fan of Irish whiskey, I prefer Scotch single malt, which, from an Irish man is probably sacrilege but this would be as close to a Scotch as you will get. It all started so well on the nose, but this batch leaves a bit to be desired on both palate and finish. Definitely going to make sure I always have this on hand as it's a great (and inexpensive) option for every day drinking.

Jocularity aside, I've always found Irish whiskey acceptable if somewhat dull and predictable, like action movies or romantic comedies. The original date of the first Bushmills distillery (1603) is embossed into the glass near the bottom. I will always have at least one Irish whiskey in my cabinet at all times, and while I haven't had any to compare to the BB, I would agree with you 'Bigt' that this is a very enjoyable bottle! About 3 years ago I purchased a bottle of Black Bush after being acquainted with this fine whiskey at a local pub.

As we often say, 'without the village there'd be no whiskey, and without the whiskey there'd be no village'.

Coming in as the most significant secondary aroma is a host of baking spices, with cinnamon in the mix. It has some of the dominant character of the older releases but with quite a bit more youthful vigor. Adding water didn't change much in the character of this whiskey, but adding ice brought out more fruit and toned down a bit of the malt sweetness.

If you think you may have an alcohol problem please contact the SAMHSA national helpline to get assistance. The company that originally built the distillery was formed in 1784, although the date 1608 is printed on the label of the brand – referring to an earlier date when a royal licence was granted to a local landowner to distil whiskey in the area. On the palate it starts out some sherry notes and a little spice, then turns your mouth warm in a very pleasant way.Black Bush is not a single malt, but a blend of single malt (approx 80%) and some grain whiskey, that has matured for over 8 years (sometimes up to 11 years) in oloroso sherry oak casks. As noted in the '5000' discussion thread, Connosr's own Jean-Luc celebrates his birthday today (or yesterday depending on what part of the world you are in). After various periods of closure in its subsequent history, the distillery has been in approximately continuous operation since it was rebuilt after a fire in 1885. You are correct Victor, I was only comparing the flavour profile of Bushmill's to that of some other speyside malts that I have tasted in the past. American Prohibition in 1920 came as a large blow to the Irish Whiskey industry, but Bushmills managed to survive.

Bushmills’ whiskey, up until the 1980s, had largely been sold as blends, with Bushmills Original being the most common. Taste - The baking spice mix (cinnamon/nutmeg/cloves blended nicely together) takes centre stage on the palate, with the apple and butter notes also continuing through from the nose on a supporting basis. Mixologists from Bar Swift on Old Compton Street, London have come up with two new cocktails to bring out the “rich, fruity notes and deep intense character” of Black Bush. If they were the only ones I could ever afford to drink, I could be at a very happy place with only these two!Finish - The baking spices complete a wonderful journey from nose to mouth to throat, maintaining their balanced co-existance. My reasonsing was, "Meh, it's only blended Irish whiskey, and it doesn't hold a flame to single malt scotch whiskies, blah, blah, blah.
