About this deal

S. tour booked through the fall of 1975, and by the end of the year, the group announced it was splitting up— leaving Stewart to get right back to work on his next solo album. The vinyl records come packaged in an iridescent box with Rod Stewart foil-stamped on the cover, his blonde shaggy haircut in gold and his leopard-print suit shimmering in silver! And while “Drift Away” imbues Dobie Gray’s original with greater urgency, he’s equally keen to smooth out the ‘60s Detroit punch of “This Old Heart of Mine” with some sumptuous ‘70s Philly soul.

Other accolades include a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, being appointed Knight Bachelor in the 2016 Birthday Honours, as well as receiving seven various Canadian Juno Award nominations. Atlantic Crossing signaled a period of change that would see Stewart changing labels, countries of residence, and musical focus — and ultimately leaving his longtime bandmates behind. The album was produced by Tom Dowd, the famous engineer and producer on records by so many of Stewart's heroes during Dowd's time on staff at Atlantic Records. The album was divided into a fast side and a slow side, apparently at the suggestion of Stewart's then-girlfriend, Swedish actress Britt Ekland. The rock legend has dominated the charts since he burst onto the music scene in the early 1970s and his songs are still played on radio stations across the world, including this one! Nothing much happens on the Slow Side until Stewart’s own “Still Love You,” a song which evokes all of Rod’s aforementioned vulnerability and shy-guy tenderness as well as “Dirty Old Town,”“Country Comforts,”“Maggie May,”“Mandolin Wind,”“You Wear It Well” and other cherished experiences from a shared past. The collection spans from his early years through to present day and captures some of his biggest moments and memories.

It stayed in the top spot in the UK for a week, for four weeks in the US, as well as topping the charts for two weeks in Australia. The title indicated Stewart's new commercial and artistic direction, referring to both his crossing over to Warner Brothers and on his departure to escape the 83 per cent top rate of income tax introduced by British Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson for the jet-set lifestyle in Los Angeles (where he had applied for American citizenship at this time). The steel string fingerpicking in I Don't Want to Talk About It, along with the electronic string arrangement and the weeping electric guitar creates a mellow atmosphere.
