About this deal

Given that the 500 and 500DX share essentially the same underlying steel frame, it is worth revisiting our original review for a more thorough overview. Those familiar with the form factor will immediately notice one key change; the solid, airflow-restricting front fascia of the Pure Base 500 has been swapped out for a panel lined with two large mesh inserts. We’ve analyzed each section of this case and what we are seeing has been impressive. Now it’s time to grab some parts from the benching station and look at its potential. Here, we will focus on the 500DX’s ability to house custom water cooling components, large air coolers, manage cable routing, and of course see how beautiful she can look. Water Cooled Build A tápegységborítás tökéletesen elrejti a kábeleket és a tápegységet, továbbá egy dupla merevlemezkeretet is tartalmaz. A rezgéscsillapító távtartókkal rögzített HDD-keret hozzájárul a csendes működéshez. Ez a keret ki is vehető, és így akár 360 mm-es vízhűtés-radiátor is beépíthető előre. A tápegységborítás használatával a tápegység kényelmesen, hátulról építhető be. The right-side panel doesn't have any holes for ventilation, but the inside of the panel is padded. This pad is designed to help reduce noise created by vibration, but it's difficult to say exactly how helpful this is. The finished system doesn't seem to be particularly loud, but this has a lot more to do with the cooling hardware you bring to the build than the case itself. The case offers lighting in two places: the front panel features a pair of frosted ARGB light bars and the inside has a single light strip that provides a subtle, yet pleasing ambiance.

Inside the Pure Base 500DX, the PSU and 3.5-inch-drive storage mounts are located in a compartment at the bottom of the case. In addition to making the finished system look cleaner, this design also makes building the computer easier in many ways. We’ll start with only the 500-series be quiet! cases, then move on to the comparative charts. The baseline CPU temperature during the first torture test was 49 degrees Celsius over ambient, which only dropped to 45 degrees dT with the removal of the front panel (while leaving the front and top filters in place). The two exhaust fans in the rear of the case are the ones primarily responsible for CPU cooling, and their efficacy isn’t directly dependent on the front panel. Removing just the optional filters from the front and top of the case lowered CPU dT to 47 degrees, not quite as good as removing a whole panel, but much more practical for daily use. Adding another front intake fan to the case had no significant impact on CPU thermals versus baseline for this specific build configuration. The original 500 had a baseline CPU temperature of 66 degrees, massively increased over the DX and hot enough to cause some brief and minor throttling as the logged CPU temperature brushed up against the 100-degree mark. Testing with the mesh top filter instead had a slightly better result with a 64C dT average. Emulating the DX’s three-fan configuration helped slightly more and pushed the average down to 58 degrees over ambient. That’s still much, much worse than baseline for the DX--the front panel really does make the difference. We wouldn’t recommend the non-DX. A fan configuration slightly leaning towards negative pressure consists of a single 120mm fan fitted to the front of the case as an intake, with two 140mm fans as exhaust, one in the rear and one at the top of the case. For GPU dT, the DX averaged 54C. As usual, that’s nearer to average compared to other GPU temperatures on the chart, but still acceptable. The P400A RGB still does better by a couple degrees, as does the NZXT H710, but the only cases that beat it by a large margin are ones with direct GPU cooling like the DIYPC Zondda-O and our custom configuration of the Lian Li O11 XL. CONCLUSION

Features

Accordingly, the 500DX performed well here with a CPU dT not much higher than the torture result, averaging 52C dT. It’s cooler than all cases other than the Corsair 220T Airflow and Phanteks P400A RGB, which are tied at 51C dT. I would have perhaps liked to have seen that modular PSU shroud from the larger Dark Base Pro series make an appearance here. I think allowing the choice of how the shroud appears for modular builds is an excellent addition to a PC chassis and one I hope be quiet! expands across its product range to better differentiate its own cases from the competition.

KitGuru says: If you are struggling with high system temperature or are thinking of building a system shortly, we hope this information will help you decide on the optimal airflow configuration. Choosing either a balanced, negative or positive pressure fan configuration should all yield good thermal performance results, with a configuration leaning slightly towards positive pressure being the best for dust build up inside the case. For all who strive for maximum performance and especially with water-cooled systems, the Pure Base 500DX White with its extremely air-permeable front and top cover is the right choice. The dust filters on the front and bottom are easy to remove for cleaning. Other companies with too specific or unfortunate wording have changed their name to better represent what they sell.

The be quiet! Pure Base 500DX is all about cooling, and the front mesh panel is glorious for hot PC builds.

Pure Base 500DX Case Review: Mesh Thermals, Noise be quiet! Pure Base 500DX Case Review: Mesh Thermals, Noise

The Pure Base 500DX can house up to two 3.5 mm Hard Drives or up to five 2.5 mm Solid State Drives thanks to its HDD/SDD caddy and SSD mounting trays. You didn't hear the latest and greatest then. Or atleast not the greatest. The PC market is larger, with plenty of poor examples. But when done right, PCs are hard to beat for silence because of the selection of components available. I have a 2010 MacPro and a PC in a Silverstone FT-02 (a 10 year old case) and the PC is quieter. The Mac has a slight ambient hum from anywhere in the room. The only sound from the PC is air moving, which becomes silent at 3ft. There's also the temp differences... much of the reason Macs run quietly is simply because Apple decided to sacrifice thermals when setting the fan curves. All fans exhaust: 2 x 120mm front, 1 x 120mm top and 1 x 120mm rear all pulling air into the system. The high-quality, fully-windowed side panel offers a perfect view of the components inside your PC case. The window is made of tempered glass with white painted side bars. With this in mind, we would suggest when using a PC case of this type, to install the system fans to slightly favour a positive pressure airflow configuration for the optimal compromise between system temperature and dust levels. To create a positive pressure fan configuration you will need slightly more intake fans or higher intake flowrate than exhaust.

Rotating 180° again to view the bottom, we see the removable bottom filter. This is a full-length filter even though the lower PSU intake mesh is only roughly half the length of the chassis. The four trapezoidal feet are fitted with a fair amount of rubber padding to ensure a stable platform. Bottom View Stripped Down Moving on from cooling, let's talk over the rest of the spec sheet that builders will need to bear in mind. You've got the usual 7 PCI slot expansion bars, two HDD mounts in a removable cage, alongside five SSD mount options. Dust filters are located on the top, bottom, and front. GPU and CPU cooler clearance is in line with other mid-tower PC cases and should fit most cards and crazy big coolers. is ismerheti: Pure Base 500 DX BGW 37 BGW 38, PureBase500DXBGW37BGW38, Pure Base 500DX (BGW37/BGW 38) ARGB LEDs offer multiple colors and modes to individualize the look of the case from the inside as well as from the outside. You can optionally synchronize lighting with your motherboard or ARGB controller. We've opted to relocate the pre-installed 140mm top exhaust as a front intake, allowing for our 240mm radiator and AMD Ryzen test platform to slot in with ease. The build process proved problem-free from start to finish, however enthusiasts should be aware of some of the limitations that remain. Oversized E-ATX boards a no-go - it's Mini-ITX, Micro-ATX or ATX only - there are no provisions for a vertical graphics card, and an absence of 5.25in bays means no optical drive.

Best combined with

Three preinstalled Pure Wings 2 fans with airflow-optimized fan blades that ensure perfect airflow and cooling. Despite the compact case design the fans at the front, top and rear are 140mm models, resulting in very quiet operation. Up to two 140 mm fans can be installed in addition. Included with the Pure Base 500DX are three ‘Pure Wings 2’ 140 mm fans. While these fans don’t have RGB lighting, what they do offer is an engineered nine-blade design touted to reduce noise-generating turbulence. Equipped with rifle bearings, the Pure Wings 2 provides an operational lifetime of 80,000 hours at a maximum speed of 900 RPM. Power is delivered via a standard 3-pin connecter (DC control) and the speed can be controlled by the motherboards fan speed software. Finally, all Pure Wings 2 fans come with a three-year warranty. This matches the duration of the warranty for the case, so no need to worry about replacing them. According to Be Quiet's Pure Base 500DX spec list, there's room to mount up to five 2.5-inch drives in this case, along with two 3.5-inch drives, with one overlapping bay between the two types. The two 3.5-inch drives get mounted at the bottom of the case in a small removable hard drive cage. As for the 2.5-inch drives, two of these can be mounted directly behind the motherboard mounting tray, and two more can be installed at the front of the case. The fifth 2.5-inch mount is located inside of the hard drive cage, and using it takes up one of the 3.5-inch drive-mounting locations.
