About this deal

The second filter works similarly to the classic SEM filter. It is a 12dB per octave and gives you a continuous sweep from Low pass, through bandpass and up to High Pass. The general sound quality is truly excellent. It can be precise and crisp, warm and textured, and these can be anything from high-quality ‘bread and butter’ sounds, to something truly unique, something you have never heard before. The modulation routes themselves can also become modulation destinations, and can be targeted by the Macros too. Extremely expressive and with multiple pad layouts to choose from along with multiple scales, playing the Hydrasynth Desktop is fun, unique and inspiring. Oscillation and Mutation If you are pondering applications for such glacial shifts, another parameter might offer clues: Freerun. Touch any key briefly, and a free-running envelope will progress through all its timed stages without further intervention. In a live situation, you can initiate complete ambient soundscapes while you nip off for a glass of sweet sherry.

Excellent product for sound designers and it is easy to study the sounds created by the manufacturer. Once selecting a sound, go to the the MOD MATRIX or MACRO buttons and this will allow for dissection of, and provide understanding in building ones own sounds. You might expect that just eight waves couldn't compare with the longer tables of older synths, but in practice I didn't find this to be the case. One of the common misconceptions concerning wavetable synthesis is that it's all about endless transitions, but in my experience, the coolest results are achieved by morphing between one or two markedly different waveforms. In such cases, the in-betweens are often as interesting as deliberately prepared waves. Filter 2 is a 12dB per octave state-variable filter, which means it can sweep continuously from either low pass > bandpass > high pass or low pass > notch > high pass. It is similar to the classic SEM filter in many ways.

Old gold! The well-respected Blofeld includes user-sample-upload, virtual analogue synthesis, three fast LFOs per voice and four fast envelopes per-voice, 16 parts, arpeggiator, three oscs per-voice (with wavetables) and FM. The ribbon controller and polyphonic after touch are just stunning and a joy to play. Lots of modulation and pre-sets, (but of course you can make your own). You can use almost anything on the Hydrasynth as a destination, including the effects, arpeggiator and Modulation Matrix points. The Hydrasynth Macros are designed to allow deep control over the engine in live performance. They're easy to make and fun to use. PW-ASM: Divides the incoming wave into 8 slices and lets you set the amount of FM that is applied to each segment. This is FM unleashed.Of course, there are also 10 standard waveforms available, including Sample and Hold, Noise, and Random. If you’re looking for a sound that’ll surprise, inspire and frighten you at every opportunity it gets, the Hydrasynth is ready and waiting. As mentioned earlier, its virtual analog 8-voice polyphony is already exciting – but it becomes a different beast entirely when you dive into its full capability. While we are talking performance controls, let's look at the unique paddle-style pitch and mod wheels. The paddles are clever and add a more nuanced method of moving the wheels. They also light up in several rather lovely colours along with the big selector wheel, and you can customise this when saving your patches.

ASM Hydrasynth 49-note Virtual Analog Wave-Morphing Keyboard

With 32 user-definable Modulation matrix slots, there are plenty of ways to use the 35 modulation sources and 191 modulation destinations. Let’s start with the wave-morphing. With 219 waves to choose from, you’ve got plenty at your disposal. Oscillators 1 and 2 can morph waveshapes with mutators – 7 mutation processes to be precise. At this point, the possibilities seem endless. Filter 1 has 16 different models ranging from 1 to 8 poles, many with high-, band-, and low pass options. There is also a flexible vocal filter with formant control. Even if Filter 1 were the only filter the Hydrasynth had, it would take a lifetime to exhaust the possibilities. What really grabbed people when the original Hydrasynth was first announced was the surprisingly flexible sound generation system combined with the plentiful real-time control that included polyphonic aftertouch (a relative rarity amongst synths even today). When people started to use and hear the synth, this interest turned to genuine excitement.
