About this deal
It’s a shame to see that LEGO advent calendars still can’t escape their usual tropes even when based on a source material as vast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it’s only one day in what is otherwise a great variety of models. — LEGO Marvel 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar characters —
As predicted, Day 20’s build is this Wearable Christmas Tree, perfect to turn Groot into festive holiday mode! The Potter set also has phenomenal mini-figures. You get a Moaning Myrtle. You get a Neville Longbottom, complete with the sword of Godric Gryffindor. On the inside of each flap door is a picture of its respective build, which also doubles as your instructions; there is no separate booklet to explain how to put these together. In theory, this means that the single picture must be self-evident enough to convey what is typically depicted in multiple steps. Anyway, for me the standout calendar this year is probably the Harry Potter calendar. Nary a misfired minibuild and a lot of minifigs with unique prints, that still wouldn’t be so Christmas-coded as they’d be useless outside a Christmas setting… You’ve probably noticed that one member of the team wasn’t listed in that line-up, as Gamora is missing from 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar following the events of Avengers: Endgame. If anything, it’s the only downside of this calendar taking inspiration from the MCU, in which the current version of Gamora has no memory of the Guardians.Moaning Myrtyle– How do you make a minifigure ghost? Make her greyscale, of course! I love the color choices here; they really sold the character for me.
Theme: LEGO Marvel Set name: 76231 Guardians of the Galaxy Advent Calendar Release: September 1, 2022Sally is a business journalist, copywriter and consultant. She's also a very happy Mum to Flea, the world's coolest 16 year old. In fact, instead of lots of moving vehicles and structures/buildings as there were in the 2021 City Calendar, there was a variety of different objects in the 2022 builds. The reason for this variety may be the country setting of this City Calendar but, in any case, it made for a much more entertaining and enjoyable building experience overall, though like with last year’s calendar there’s some builds where once completed I wasn’t sure what they were supposed to be. It’s not always easy to find something that’s different but aesthetic but also cool for teenagers. But I think this advent calendar hits the mark.
