About this deal

Once children have followed their 'central character' through the story, they have the opportunity to plan and write independently using their previous learning to shape their creative stories. Children at Keresleyschoolsare encouraged to see writing as a journey; re-drafting and editing are used before writing is published.Writing extends across the curriculum with children being given opportunities to write for a range of different purposes outside of the writing lesson. Spelling is taught through the Spelling Shed scheme. In each year group, children will be taught specific spelling rules which they will build on and use throughout the scheme. TOOLS - The GRAMMARISTICS. The grammar rules of our language system and an accessible way to target weaknesses in pupils grammatical and linguistic structures. In Reception, children are immersed in a language rich environment, with stories at thecore of their learningand the Early Years Curriculum. Even before theycan write, the childrenare securing their understanding of words and their meanings through 'Picture Power'. The FANTASTICS are used to focus the children's ideas about what can be seen, igniting their senses and broadening their vocabulary. The children are also taught ambitious word choicesthrough 'Word Collecting'activities. The research of Jane Considine (The Write Stuff) was a development initiative in 2018, to enhance current provision and practice. The focus remains on a love of story, enrichment and language. Children are immersed in a key text, revealing plot points one at a time through the 'slow reveal'to maintain the excitement of revealing the story. This story forms the basis of the wider project and curriculum enrichment. We add clarity to the mechanics of the teaching of writing.

Jane Considine will be coming to Northamptonshire on the 12th December 2023 to deliver Hooked on Books, in person. The Large Writing Rainbow symbols are a set of 27 brightly coloured classroom resources, measuring 28.5 cm in diameter, that mirror the writing lenses found on Jane Considine’s Writing Rainbow. By using these lenses, teachers can focus on a particular aspect of the Writing Rainbow. Pupils can then incorporate that lens in their planning and writing activities during the lesson. This allows them to become more confident on the range and repertoire of aspects to showcase in their independent writing. The poster is a bright and colourful reminder for demonstration writing. It encourages pupils by stretching and challenging independent writing.Model section – the teacher close models a sentence that outlines clear writing features and techniques. · Jane Considinewill be coming to Birmingham on the 8th December 2023 to deliverThe Write Stuff,in person.

At Whitehouse Primary School we are very proud of our pupil’s handwriting and take particular care in our cursive/joined-up handwriting style. We use Letter-join as the basis of our handwriting policy that covers all the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum. The Write Stuff provides a balance of narrative, non-fiction and poetry writing throughout each term. Impact The BOOMTASTICs capture the ten powerful ways to add drama and poetic devices to writing. They help children structure their work, teaching them to showcase their writing voice, demonstrate originality and to take risks in a bid to capture the truth of a situation. Jane Considine will be coming to Northamptonshire on the 7th December 2023 to deliver Fantastic Foundations, in person. In the Enable section pupils write their own sentences, taking the opportunity to deepen the moment. ‘Deepen the Moment’ is where children are challenged to independently draw upon previously learnt skills and apply them to their writing during that chunk.
