About this deal

This movie, while marketed under the relatively innocuous English title "Loves of the Nympho", may be the most insane of the many insane offerings of Italian director Sergio Bergonzelli, who was already making the kind irredeemable sleaze in the early 70's that his fellow countrymen like Joe D'Amato, Andreas Bianchi, and Bruno Mattei would be churning out by the end of the decade. This seems to be a kind of sequel to Bergonzelli's earlier "Cristiana, Student of Scandal" (at least, if the title character hadn't died at the end of that)with Toti Achilli taking over the role Malissa Longo originally played as a college-age, ridiculously promiscuous, micro mini-skirted minx. The community had split into warring factions, one led by the prioress and the other by the lately arrived Lady Isabella de Clinton, widowed, well connected and related to the priory’s founder.

A film loosely based on real life events of Marianna De Leyva, better known as "The Nun of Monza," a 17th century nun accused of and tried by the church for breaking celibacy and plotting murder. We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. The ability to comment on our stories is a privilege, not a right, however, and that privilege may be withdrawn if it is abused or misused. She says: "There were two who were modern in their dress, and I don't want them walking around the convent in that. Maybe they’re not doodling, exactly. I do illuminations myself, and it can get so tedious! Sometimes I just need to refocus, take a break, and work on something less serious. Maybe marginalia runs along those same lines – taking a break from the task at hand. Rumiko is a misbehaving girl who got caught stealing the cash her father had at home for bribes. Father would not accuse her of that, but when he caught her having sex with her English ... Thanks to Manchester-based Granada’s encouragement of local talent, Thomson and Aherne soon moved to TV with regional variety show What’s New? and sketch pilot The Dead Good Show. Then, later, game show Remote Control, and sketch shows The Full Monty and The Fast Show. The pair also performed at universities. There’d be “horrible dressing rooms, stinking of fags, bog seat on the floor”, says Thomson. But they allowed Aherne to indulge a surprising habit: “Caroline always used to carry a massive handbag. We’d be talking about the gig, then she’d go ‘Look at that’, and she’d robbed something! She’d take things like a hammer or a sign for the ladies: ‘I’ll have that to put on my toilet door.’” Nun of That follows Sister Kelly Wrath as she transforms from a nun with a simple temper problem to a vengeful killer. Being somewhat of a connoisseur of 70's Italian sex comedies (that or just a drooling idiot), I have seen any number of the countless movies in this generally dimwitted, inbred genre. The best, relatively speaking, are the ones that feature the sumptuous and genuinely talented actress Edwige Fenech, and those that fall into category of "decamerotici"--basically a series of period sex comedies loosely based on Boccaccio's classic literary work "The Decameron" (but more likely based on the hit Pier Pasolini movie of the same name). Well, this movie is a "decamerotici" AND it features Edwige Fenech in the title role, so naturally it is well above par.

The problems girls face in the unisex environment of a convent school are revealed in a series of vignettes. Then there was Joan Saxton, who was confined to the priory in 1310. We don’t know exactly what Joan did to warrant this, but her time among the nuns was very strictly controlled. She was only allowed to walk outside if she was accompanied by other nuns. She was only permitted visitors twice a year, and they had to be supervised. And perhaps, most telling of all, Joan was absolutely forbidden from ever seeing Dame Alice Waleys ever, ever again. The premise of most Nunsploitation movies revolves around a young woman who has done something to offend male figures of authority and is forcibly sequestered in a convent for her supposed moral protection. Once inside the girl often encounters a tyrannical Mother Superior whose own suppressed sexual desires find expression in sadistic punishments meted out to disobedient novices; other young nuns who, when they are unable to smuggle lovers into their chambers under the cover of night, indulge in lesbian liaisons and the exchange of homemade pornography; and a visiting priest whose presence often inspires the nuns to further frottage and frenzy. The common explanation given for nun’s licentious behavior is of course demonic possession and this usually necessitates some form of communal exorcism. After being brutally raped, a young woman attempts to commit suicide. A priest talks her out of it and she decides to become a nun. Once inside the convent, she is again a victim of sexual abuse. A group of pilgrims in the Vatican is trapped in an enclosed elevator. Then chaos erupts, and repressed urges come to the surface. The naughty nun motif is about more than critiquing the power of the Church. The content became more varied as literacy grew more prevalent among various classes and as society became a bit more secularized. Chivalric romances were very popular, as were epic poems and tales of travel (like The Canterbury Tales, for example). Traditionally speaking, however, reading and writing was a concern of the church. Monks and nuns, particularly, needed to be able to read sacred texts, and because their duties included copying them, they needed to write. But in the later Middle Ages, literacy among the secular elite became more common. Isobel Studley turns up in the records when she was committed to Clementhorpe in 1315, but it seems she did not behave herself there either, because in 1331 she was found guilty of “sins of the flesh, apostasy and other excesses” and was sent away to a priory at Yedingham.
