Traditional slavery, although officially abolished in 1926, has not been completely eradicated. Today enslavement no longer revolves around legal ownership, but the illegal control of persons. According to Anti-Slavery International, modern slavery, also known as contemporary slavery or neo-slavery, is the severe exploitation of other people for personal or commercial gain. Faced with persistent technological crises, there is also the common attitude of ‘no pain, no gain’:“Yes, there are inevitable problems with technology, but they are a necessary part of the learning process.
