About this deal

If you're looking to invest it's worth noting that the more you spend, the more features you are likely to get. For example, some wine coolers will come with dual or triple temperature zones so that red, whites and champagne varieties can all be stored at their unique serving temperatures (7-11°C for whites, 12-19°C for reds). Operation is straightforward – insert wine, turn on, drink wine, repeat… – but we did have some teething issues with our sample. The cabinet itself is an innocuous satin-finished box measuring 46cm wide, 54 deep and 74cm tall. It has a full-size, double-glazed glass door with a light mirrored finish. This comes right-hand hinged and has an inset handle on the left edge.

Baumatic has drilled and tapped both sides of the cabinet for the hinges, technically making the opening reversible. However, the door handle can’t be swapped to the right side, which pretty much defeats the objective. Schoolboy error. Also, opening the door too frequently can effect the temperature regulation inside the unit. If you're having cooling issues, keep the door shut for 24-48 hours before seeking help. Humidity controls: if a wine is exposed to low levels of humidity for an extended period it can dry out the cork. This can allow air into the bottle, which can ruin your wine. Humidity controls allow you to manage the amount of moisture in the air inside the wine cooler, helping to ensure the integrity of the cork.

Here's the 7 reasons your Baumatic wine fridge is not cooling and how to fix it: 1. There's a problem with the Power Supply (And The Fix)Ultimately heat will transfer from these parts to the internal areas of the wine fridge and can cause a cooling issue. If you're seriously pondering this question, then the chances are you have enough interest in wine to make buying a wine cooler a sound investment. If you tend to just wash your steak down with a couple of glasses of any old plonk now and then, a wine cooler probably isn't for you. How much wine do you need to store? This will give you an idea of the sort of bottle capacity to look for. If you're building a collection you probably want to aim for a model with 25-50% more capacity than the number of bottles you currently have. It's safer to have more space than you need and not use it, than need it and not have it. If, on the other hand, you tend to have a high turnover of bottles – buying and serving them within a few months of each other – capacity might be less of a consideration. The Baumatic’s energy label suggests a super-silent 38dB, but we measured a fair bit more than that. With both the rear cooling fan and the interior fan running, it was outputting nearer 42dB. Given decibels are a logarithmic scale, that’s a whole lot louder than the claimed 38dB. It’s fairly noisy by current fridge standards and will be noticeable in a hushed kitchen.
