She remained in the shadow cabinet in a succession of roles throughout Corbyn’s tenure and into Starmer’s, eventually taking up the transport position in November 2021.

That’s a really important job if Labour gets into government because he’d essentially be in charge of the machinery of government. Promoted to the post of shadow health secretary last November, Wes Streeting has prepared a programme of modernisation and investment for the NHS. In June, he wrote to the National Audit Office demanding an inquiry into delays to the new hospital programme. Each member of the Cabinet has an equivalent in the Shadow Cabinet. On behalf of the Opposition (the Labour Party), the relevant Shadow Cabinet Member scrutinises the work of the opposing Cabinet Minister. They offer criticism both in Parliament and on the media. The UK’s energy supply would be rapidly transformed under a Labour government, making it 100% generated by renewable sources over the next seven years. The policy, announced in the build up to the conference, is a more ambitious upgrade of Jeremy Corbyn’s pledge in 2017 to have 60% of electricity generated by renewables. Liz Kendall, formerly a shadow health minister and a longstanding party aide in the Blair era who ran against Jeremy Corbyn for the Labour leadership in 2015, has replaced Jonathan Ashworth as shadow work and pensions secretary. Peter Kyle, another former Blair aide, has been promoted to shadow science secretary. Niamh Kelly is dead. Her troubled twin, Ciara, now masquerades as the benevolent witch as Her Majesty's Royal Coven prepares to crown her High Preistess. a b Yussuf, Ahmed (18 October 2013). The Shadow Cabinet was last reshuffled in late November 2021, as is made up of the following members of the Labour Party: As MPs returned to parliament after the summer recess, senior shadow cabinet members including Rachel Reeves, the shadow chancellor, and Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, stayed in their roles. In France, although the formation of a Shadow Cabinet is not compulsory and not common, several Shadow Cabinets have been formed. What do you mean I have to wait a year for Book 3?? I guess I’ll manage, but I have spoiled myself by waiting a year to read Her Majesty’s Royal Coven, resulting in almost no wait between it and The Shadow Cabinet. Juno Dawson has created an excellent new urban fantasy series. However, I am going to be harder on this book than the first one for precisely that reason: she has set me up to expect great things from her!

So what does it all tell us? It tells us Keir Starmer wants his close allies in those top jobs running into the general election. A lot of them are on the centre of the party rather than from the left who ruled the roost under Jeremy Corbyn. But if Labour wins the next general election, she is certain to be a key figure in the new government. Confirming speculation that there would be changes in the junior ranks of the shadow cabinet, the reshuffle began when the shadow environment secretary, Jim McMahon, long tipped for demotion, announced he would be stepping down. One party insider suggested he had “seen the writing on the wall” concerning his future in Starmer’s top team.
