About this deal

Compared with Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic, we've significantly upgraded the imaging performance of the Mavic 3 Pro Series: Regardless, we would hope that the Mavic 3 Pro would be First-Person-View capable and able to work with the DJI Goggles V2. There are a lot of those goggles already out in the wild, and if it’s an opportunity for additional goggle sales (and value-added for the drone), why not?

But more than that, it was the beginning of a new way of thinking around form and function. The Mavic Pro was immensely more portable than the Phantom line, folding down to a really compact size. It also had better flight time, and a much smaller and innovative controller. And while that controller may look slightly dated now against the current crop (Mavic AIR 2, AIR 2S controllers), it was really compact, and got the job done. Branching out I attached a nx500 to my Phantom 2 years ago and been getting 28mp images for years, with sharp image due to setting high shutter speed, it would take a Ar7 series too, bit of guess work, but once you know about photography its easy to predict right settings and get a great image, all of which are far superior to these 20mp phone quality images from a 5000 overpriced drone, at least the cine version. The Mavic 2 Pro's camera didn't use the full sensor when shooting 4K video clips. Perhaps this was to prevent overheating, given its small housing, but what resulted was line skipping and pixel binning that compromised the overall quality of the footage. Furthermore, if you wanted to hone in on subjects, you needed a whole different drone like the Mavic 2 Zoom. The Mavic 3 series features a dual-camera system with Hasselblad's HNCS technology. On the bottom is a 20MP, Four Thirds CMOS sensor while the top has a 12MP, 1/2" sensor with up to 28X zoom. The 5,000 mAh battery’s theoretical limit of 46 minutes flight is attention-grabbing (31 was the previous limit), and we found nearly every one of them in our testing. More flight time is extremely useful in terms of positioning for a shot, and will working in teams much easier, reducing the extent the drone operator delays production with battery issues. The Mavic 2 already had the jump on the Inspire 2 here –this is a leap. The release of the Mavic 3 series is long-awaited and for the most part, it delivers. My disappointment comes from the fact that more abilities to customize your photo settings weren't included. DJI periodically updates its firmware, so the company could surprise us in the future. And since they never cannibalize their product line, I can't help but wonder what's next? What's yet to come might offer the Hasselblad color profile, an optical zoom, and possibly even interchangeable lenses on an aircraft that can easily be carried around.

At first glance the Mavic 3 looks the same as its forebear, the Mavic 2 Pro only it’s a bit more rounded, darker in colour and noticeably equipped with more safety cameras and sensors. However, place them side by side and the difference in size becomes apparent. Where the Mavic Pro 2 measures 214×91×84mm when folded, the Mavic 3 is 221×96.3×90.3mm. There’s an even bigger difference when unfolded – at 347.5×283×107.7mm, the Mavic 3 is visibly larger by a several centimetres. And the battery? The battery is a whopper in size and capable of keeping the drone aloft for up to a class-leading 45 minutes. Yet somehow DJI’s white-suited boffins have kept this drone’s weight to a smidge under 900g, or 895g to be precise. Compare that to the Mavic Pro 2’s 907g and you really do wonder how they did it. Our source in China says the Mavic 3 Pro will “definitely” have a rear-mounted battery. Mavic 3 Pro features recap

Before first use, please make sure that the goggles and motion controller have been updated to the latest firmware version. Additionally, use DJI RC-N1, DJI RC, or DJI RC Pro to update the drone to the latest firmware version. Otherwise, the linking between the aircraft and the goggles and motion controller will fail. The Mavic 3 series has 2 obstacle avoidance sensors on the bottom of the drone plus auxiliary lights to aid in landing during low-light situations.

There are still some unanswered questions, of course, and we can’t guarantee that everything on our list will come to fruition. But we’re pretty confident about nearly all of these features. There’s also no question these are features that would be embraced by the drone community. The first thing that strikes you about the Mavic 3 Pro is the size of the camera and gimbal, which is naturally larger than those found on the Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic models because it houses three cameras. In terms of design, there’s no mistaking its Mavic lineage thanks to excellent build quality and a folding design that takes the drone from 9.10 x 3.85 x 3.75 inches / 231.1 x 98 x 95.4mm when folded to 13.68 x 11.44 x 4.24 / 347.5 x 290.8 x 107.7mm unfolded (excluding propellers). From everything we’ve heard, it’s coming this year. A source in China close to DJI has current plans are for a Q3 release – meaning sometime between July and the end of September. But he cautioned it could just as easily be pushed to Q4. The Mavic 3 is now the fully-featured drone it should have been at launch. And while the features available when it first arrived were more than enough for professionals and experienced drone pilots who typically use manual controls, the arrival of the missing features also makes the Mavic 3 much more beginner-friendly. The Mavic 3 is now the best prosumer drone you can buy, and one that could provide many years of service, thanks to the advanced features and fantastic image quality it offers. DJI Mavic 3 release date and priceWith the Mavic 3 series, you can point the camera toward the sun and it will create a sunburst instead of blowing out and entire area. I still remember the DJI Phantom 2 Vision drone with its bulbous white camera and no gimbal. I look at the 1080p footage I originally shot today and I’m aghast that I thought it was even a little bit good. The same thing happened with the Phantom Vision 2+ which was fitted with a gimbal. Wow, we all thought, this footage is way better. It was a bit but, in hindsight, it was still bloody awful. Nevertheless, DJI’s cameras continued to improve, and each time this writer and many others praised the company for pushing the cinematic envelope. Every one was better than the last. By the time DJI’s first aerial 4K camera was released many of us thought it couldn’t get any better. Well we were wrong again because the Hasselblad camera fitted to this beast of a drone is on another level. Unobstructed, free of interference, and when FCC-compliant. Maximum flight range specification is a proxy for radio link strength and resilience. Always follow local rules and regulations and fly your drone within your visual line of sight unless otherwise permitted. Outside the cover, the drone looks much more like the Air 2S; the legs are thinner and the vision sensors placed diagonally on the corners rather than glaring forward like those on the Mavic 2. The top and rear side vents offer a slightly aggressive posture though the spindly legs offset that. The Mavic 3 Pro Series includes DJI’s first tri-camera flagship drones with multiple focal lengths. It uses the same wide-angle 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera as Mavic 3 and Mavic 3 Classic. Compared with Mavic 3, it adds a 1/1.3-inch CMOS 70mm medium tele camera with 48MP effective pixels. It also has an upgraded 1/2-inch CMOS 166mm tele camera with 12MP effective pixels, providing more flexible aerial photography perspectives while enhancing creative efficiency and freedom.

Obviously, after some three years since the release of the Mavic 2 Pro drones, the company will be putting some significant upgrades into this product. What features will the Mavic 3 Pro have? We noted, when a prototype shell recently emerged online, that it did not have the traditional cutout for a top-mounted battery. We theorized, based on that, it would be a rear-mounted battery. It also features what appears to be a cooling scoop, indicating of more processing power (and heat) on board: This shell, maybe from a Mavic 3 Pro, indicates a cooling scoop and a rear-mount battery…The Mavic 3 Cine is powered by a new remote called the DJI RC Pro. It basically looks and behaves like an updated version of DJI's Smart Controller. The RC Pro features a 1,000-nit, 5.5" high bright screen and a range of 15km (9.3 miles) thanks to O3+ (OcuSync 3) transmission. DJI says it takes 90 minutes to charge fully and can operate the drone up to 3 hours.
