Despite its potential complexity, the game is highly customisable with multiple difficulty levels that greatly alter the gameplay and add entirely new mechanics - hence all the rulebooks. If you like the zombie genre but want your tabletop gaming with a bit more meat on its bones, Dawn of the Zeds is the zombie board game for you. In 2019, Mantic Games launched a new version of their miniature game rules focused on larger battles, named The Walking Dead: Call To Arms. This game uses the same miniatures as The Walking Dead: All Out War.

Characters that are killed don’t drop out of the game. Instead, they become zombies and can join forces against the survivors. Imagine if in Monopoly players who lost all of their money could continue playing as gangsters or bank robbers (admit it, you are now working out alternative rules in your head to allow this). This should be fun and allow players to continue to enjoy the game even if they get killed early on. But it isn’t fun in The Walking Dead because the zombies are overpowered in relation to the characters. Most of the components just felt really cheap. The Box is way too big for what it contains.
