Homo Eratticus– The New Studio Album From Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson". Jethrotull.com. 23 November 2013 . Retrieved 8 December 2013. Most of the album was recorded at Anderson's Maison Rogue Studios in Fulham, London, although some sessions took place at Morgan Studios, Townhouse Studios and the Maison Rogue Mobile studio at Anderson's home due to recording time not always being available for the band at Maison Rogue. Like the band's previous album Heavy Horses, much of Stormwatch was recorded late at night, as daytime hours at Maison Rogue were usually left open for other bands. [6] Thames Television meteorologist Francis Wilson performs a spoken word piece at the beginning of " Dun Ringill". Stormwatch is one of those Jethro Tull albums, like Benefit and A Passion Play before it, that has a darker tone. While Ian Anderson’s songwriting often has a thread of humour weaving through it, it is just not as obvious on an album like Stormwatch with its lyrical concerns about environmental issues and a general windswept craggy coastal feel about it. After a good start with “North Sea Oil”, although in principle only a derivative of songs already heard on their two previous albums, and the slightly ponderous yet catchy “Orion”, the album’s contour fades and it drifts on with rather empty events, struggling to constitute a weak appendix to _Songs from the Wood_ and _Heavy Horses_.

If the flash of genius “Dun Ringill”, one of Anderson’s most haunting acoustic pieces, was not included here, _Stormwatch_ would very likely be in a state of deserved obscurity. It competes with the follow-up release A for the title of ‘lost album’. reflecting the troubled economy with the oil crisis being at the forefront of the lyrics.
