About this deal

Sometimes she does this with startling insight: Her take on the story of Leah and Rachel is an ancient reading of the text that points straight to the gospel and the doctrine of election. Her telling of the woman’s anointing of Jesus in Simon’s home in Luke 7 connects her act of adoration with Samuel’s anointing of David in 1 Samuel. Hello friends, and welcome to another episode of the Foundation Worldview Podcast where we seek to answer your questions so that you can equip the children God has placed in your care to carefully evaluate every idea they encounter and understand the truth of the biblical worldview. I'm your host, Elizabeth Urbanowicz, and I'm thrilled that you've joined me for another episode today. Today's question says, "I recently read some articles about problematic theology in the Jesus Storybook Bible, and I wondered your views on this resource. Thanks." Great question. I know that The Jesus Storybook Bible is a kids' Bible that is in many homes and churches and Christian schools across the country and across the globe. So this is a great question to explore. Lloyd-Jones grew up in Africa, where her father worked for Shell Oil. She was saved at the age of 4, after first turning down her father’s question of “Do you want to become a Christian?” with a polite “No, thank you.”

I knew the Lord, but I’d never heard grace preached like that,” said Lloyd-Jones, who would drive an hour and a half into the city from her place in Connecticut each Sunday morning. PDF / EPUB File Name: The_Jesus_Storybook_Bible_-_Sally_Lloyd-Jones.pdf, The_Jesus_Storybook_Bible_-_Sally_Lloyd-Jones.epub The Jesus Storybook Bible is as theological as it is charming... a very grown up children's Bible.' Christianity TodayI would urge not just families with young children to get this book, but every Christian--from pew warmers, to ministry leaders, seminarians and even theologians! Sally Lloyd-Jones has captured the heart of what it means to find Christ in all the scriptures, and has made clear even to little children that all God's revelation has been about Jesus from the beginning--a truth not all that commonly recognized even among the very learned.' Dr. Timothy Keller Curtis Chang is a non-profit director and the author of The Anxiety Opportunity, who vulnerably shares how he’s grappled with anxiety throughout his life. Curtis found that walking through his anxiety led him to deeper levels of self-awareness, and ultimately strengthened his relationship with God when he began to view it as an opportunity, rather than a burden. She also admired the way Keller “never uses jargon, but always finds a way to say it in a different way, and always uses metaphor. In my business, that’s the way you get truth across.” Rarely more than 100 lines (about 6-8 minutes) the stories of creation, Noah, Joseph, Moses, Daniel and all the best loved stories of Jesus sweep across breathtakingly bright and bold illustrations that reflect the beauty and wonder of the words themselves. The collective focus of the well known stories is centred on the person, life, works and meaning of the Bible’s central figure – the baby born in Bethlehem and raised in Nazareth who grew to be the friend and saviour of all children everywhere. We were overjoyed that someone had taken the theology they heard in Tim’s sermons and produced a work of art,” she said. “People grow through what you’re feeding them, and to see what Tim had been saying processed and incarnated in a children’s book made us so happy. . . . I bought 40 of them and handed them out to anyone who would sit still long enough.”

I think about that gentleness and this beauty, this tenderness that seems to be very consistent with what Jesus says about how He knows His sheep. He knows them by name and He calls them, and He tenderly cares for us just like that. That seems to resonate so deeply.” - Nathan Tasker I believe in the impact of beauty and what beauty means to the person, what beauty means to the soul, and what beauty means to civilization.” - Eric Genuis When kids understand that God is in pursuit of them in the good, the bad, and the ugly, when they can connect to those moments, and then they can see what God did for characters like Rahab, characters like Jacob when he was super jealous and not behaving properly, or David. In all of those stories, the Bible is really the key, and the crown jewel in knowing how God moves in our lives and loves us and pursues us relentlessly.” - Melina Luna SmithLloyd-Jones was hooked. “I had a narrator,” she said. “I started writing like a mother speaking to her child.” Written for children ages four and up, The Jesus Storybook Bible tells the one story underneath all the stories of the Bible and points to the birth of a child, the Rescuer, Jesus. Complete with 44 Bible stories, The Jesus Storybook Bible paints a beautiful portrait of Jesus and invites children to see that he is not only at the center of God's great story of redemption he is at the center of their story too.

The theme of the terrible lie [of sin]—which has everything to do with ‘we don’t need to be saved’ or ‘I can save myself’—was carried pretty well,” he said. The book shows “plenty of consequence to sin, plenty to build on as you take your kiddo through other resources.” Sharing the Gospel with The Jesus Storybook Bible has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.” -Ann Voskamp

What follows is a paraphrase of John 1:11–13, and an invitation to say yes to Jesus and receive his wonderful gift.

Developmentally, it’s hard for a really young child to own their sin and realize they need to be rescued,” he said. “Later, in adolescence, you realize what a dark thing sin is.” The high quality binding, strong covers and premium glossy paper make this a gift to be given with love, received with joy and treasured with delight. Each story – never more than about 100 lines of clearly readable text, is just the right length for bedtime or story-time sharing. And written by award winning English writer of children's books, Sally Lloyd-Jones, The Jesus Storybook Bible is as engaging for grown-ups as it is for children. That voice allowed her to put in quirky lines. For example, after God confused the languages at the Tower of Babel, Lloyd-Jones wrote, “You could be saying something like ‘Such a lovely morning!’ and then get a punch in the nose because they thought you said, ‘Hush up, you’re boring!’”

Guthrie was one of them. He began including The Jesus Storybook Bible in a required class on educational ministry at TEDS. She sent the book to her sister’s children, but it was her brother-in-law who told her how powerful he found it. A male friend—a pastor—wept over the manuscript.
