About this deal

River said, ‘When’d you ever hear of a joe being sent out solo? Domestic, I mean. Middle of London.’ This amused her. I loved this on audio, read by Sean Barrett, who delivers the Harry Hole series with aplomb, the great thing about this one was the repetition of the phrase referring to the execution ‘we’re gonna cut your head off and show it on the internet’. This was said with such menace it was a good reminder why I love the audio format. This is not always possible as all narrators are not top notch. Resting an area of pasture over winter to ensure good grazing for spring/summer. Either reserve a separate field or use electric tape to cordon off an area that your horse can enjoy once the ground has dried out and the grass is growing again in the spring. Care must be taken when using horses with traction devices, Clark warns. Sudden spins or turns can produce tremendous torque as the traction device anchors the foot to the ground. Thus, if your horse has additional traction on his shoes, avoid making very tight turns with him either under saddle or in hand. Most of the characters aren't precisely what you'd call reliable, though they're certainly realistic, but none of the one's we're meant to come away liking are entirely irredeemable. Even the villains are less moustache-twirlers and more bureaucrats, though to write off their evil as banal would be to ignore the real world examples of exactly how much damage that particular brand of evil is capable of spreading around.

SNOW HORSES captures the magic of First Night/New Year's Eve with it's wintry theme and magical elements. The illustrations are captivating and vibrant with remarkable details. I love how this story is also about bringing people together to brighten their nights and prepare for a new year. My daughter loves horses and this makes for a great New Year's Eve story. As the first in a series, Slow Horses was initially a bit clunky as Herron laid his foundation. The author also had the habit of oscillating between different scenarios within the same chapter, and I occasionally had to re-read parts just to make sure which character was actually speaking. But Slow Horses is a really good debut that feels original (which is a high compliment from me), and I now must request the rest of this series from my library. Interestingly, the Icelandic parliament prohibited bringing any other horse breeds into the country in 980 AD. To this day, Icelandic Horses are considered one of the purest breeds in the world. They still thrive in Iceland, but they aren’t commonly found elsewhere. Great visual: "A car appeared at the far end of the road, its headlights pinning them to their seats."Are this group of misfits as washed up as they are meant to be? Is this elusive redemption possible? Everyone it seems ends up paying for everything, deserved or not. Bashkirs are known for being incredibly hard working. You can use them for riding or farm work because of their impressive endurance. Additionally, mares produce a lot of milk per year. The average yield is about 4,600 pounds per year. I loved it and have already started Dead Lions, #2 in the series, so many thanks to NetGalley for the copy from which I’ve quoted and to Hachette Australia.

I'm so glad I finally got around to reading the opening novel of this series. Friends kept telling me how good it was and boy were they right! As the only breed that was fully developed in Finland, the Finn Horse is an incredibly versatile cold blood breed. It is sometimes called the “Finnish Universal” because of how versatile the horse can be. Though the exact origins are unknown, this horse is wildly revered as a hardy winter horse. Icelandic Horses are very short and stout. In fact, they have a stature more similar to that of a pony, but they are still able to carry full grown riders. More than that, these horses live much longer than other breeds, with some living as long as 50 years. Over-rugging is becoming a problem for leisure horses in the UK. As rug technology has improved drastically in the last few years and while winters have been milder, many horses are not burning their summer fat stores and therefore go into the new grazing season without having lost the weight they would lose naturally. Using a weigh tape, alongside fat scoring every two weeks, will help you to monitor your horse’s weight. Weigh tapes can vary in accuracy and may not be 100% reliable but they’re a good tool to help monitor if your horse is maintaining, losing or gaining weight. If you have access to a weighbridge, this will provide an accurate weight for your horse. Many vet practices, feed companies and the BHS offer owners and carers the opportunity to weigh their horses by bringing a weighbridge to the yard.

The Finn Horse is most known for its multi-purpose use. The reason why it is so versatile is because it is of average height, but it also is incredibly sturdy. As a result, they can do a lot of hard work while still being easy to handle. River is still close to his grandfather, who was a spook of some renown, and it’s his reputation that stands between River and the door. Age, health and living environment should also be taken into account when an owner decides whether or not to rug their horse. Some working horses will be clipped in winter to prevent them becoming uncomfortable when being ridden; these will certainly need a rug to compensate. Lamb’s weakness is clearly his well-hidden paternal affection for the agents (or ‘Joes’ as he calls them) under his control, including the quiet-but-mighty Catherine Standish ( Luther’s Saskia Reeves) whose considerable skills go under the radar – presumably because she’s a woman of a certain age – making her a bit of an unsung hero in the Slough House team. Horses naturally lose a bit of weight in the winter in preparation for the spring grass but keep an eye on your horse’s weight – if you find they are losing a lot then you may need to increase their hay because this will help to keep them warm. Don’t forget that overweight horses are still susceptible to laminitis, even in winter.

Visto che le spie di serie A sono chiamate purosangue, quelle di serie B, protagoniste di questo romanzo, più che i brocchi saranno i ronzini. The Bashkir Horse is a unique horse breed that can handle both extreme cold and extreme heat. As a result, these horses can survive just about anywhere. Not to mention, they can be found with a uniquely curly coat, making them a favorite among horse enthusiasts everywhere. Few residents of Slough House (a group known as the Slow Horses) last long. Boredom and frustration gets to them sooner or later. They resign and disappear. Problem solved. The horse has a huge circulatory system, which helps move the heat around the body. If heat needs to be dissipated, blood vessels are right under the surface of the skin, and heat escapes into cooler air around the horse. In cold weather the physiology of the horse is programmed to retain heat, rather than dissipate it. Being from the South, I'd never heard of First Night. You really can learn so much from picture books!

Face to face with horse communication

Lamb didn't look any different, was still a soft fat rude bastard, still dressed like he'd been thrown through a charity shop window, but ... Lamb was a joe. Mood? Tense. Kristin Scott Thomas’s eyebrows? Arched. Lips? Pursed. “Dogs are standing by, Ma’am,” says her comms guy as she and her team assess the unfolding situation at Stansted airport over TV monitors. Does he mean real dogs or is that code for MI5 operatives in the field? Queries later. National emergency now.

Se non altro la speranza che viene spinta sempre più a fondo e rinchiusa nella parte di cuore meno pulsante. In Series One, the team are embroiled in a kidnapping plot by white supremacist terrorists, a story which barrels along brutally to the point you’re almost scared to look at the screen. Then in the equally brilliant Series Two, a former agent turns up dead in odd circumstances, leading the team on the trail of reactivated Russian sleeper agents, with a risk-to-the-public element that sometimes gives it gripping disaster movie vibes.

Injured pony safe at Redwings after suspected dog attack

Newborn foals also need protection from the elements (via shelter and/or blanket), especially when they are still wet after birth. Their circulatory systems are focused on conserving heat and keeping the body core warm (for survival) rather than the extremities. And because a newborn foal has a short hair coat and very little body fat for insulation, he is at high risk for cold stress or frostbite. Feet and Legs stars and a bit. You can tell from the start that this is going to be good. Herron is a good writer, and this is the first in his "Slough House" (Slough as in "Ow!"). This is Quality writing. Fewer than one book in ten that I read is this good. Lots of worthwhile quotes below... As for their personality, these horses are considered very energetic and free spirited. At the same time, they are reliable and hardworking, meaning that you can depend on them for work or tough conditions. The first book in CWA Gold Dagger Award-winning British espionage series starring a team of MI5 agents united by one common bond: They've screwed up royally and will do anything to redeem themselves. River considers his old "friend", Spider Webb, who's gone on to better things, while River thinks about the training they both received not so long ago...
