About this deal

Central to RuPaul's success has been his chameleonic adaptability. From drag icon to powerhouse producer of one of the world's largest television franchises, RuPaul's ever-shifting nature has always been part of his brand as both supermodel and super mogul. It was a shame that the text at the end (with the timeline and the photographs) was blank in my ecopy. While it is often a more text-heavy rehash of the story there are sometimes new details found there. But one thing that truly cannot hurt me, or any child, is the understanding of love and acceptance that we humans can gift to one another. Oh, and for all you naysayers: Self-love is not always intended to be a Godless, carnal running wild of behavior. And in this case, I take it to mean that we all need to embrace who we are and “just be.”

What he was, was RuPaul, but nobody knew that yet. He continued his colourful ways, moved to New York, wore wigs and high heels, and was having a lot of fun. RuPaul has shown us that we should live our lives the way we want and to be ourselves! And I especially love how the book ends with “don’t ever think we are born to just fit in a box, we are born to stand out!” A fab message to share and inspire the little readers of today! This won’t be RuPaul’s first time flexing his writing skills. The House of Hidden Meanings marks Ru’s fourth book, preceded by his 1996 autobiography Lettin It All Hang Out, his 2010 style guide Workin’ It!: RuPaul’s Guide to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Style, and his 2018 self-help guidebook GuRu. For RuPaul, the past few years spent writing the memoir became an unexpected process of self-discovery – whether he was reexamining challenging moments from his childhood, or simply recognising how pivotal that turbulent period was in shaping the performer, producer, and entertainment powerhouse he is today. So you might think that as he prepares to put the book out into the world, RuPaul must be feeling more fearless than ever. But he isn’t – and that was exactly the point of writing it. “It’s pretty scary – although the scary part is really this part, where I’m actually having to talk about it,” he says, before breaking into his infectious laugh. “But I’ve always carried the truth of who I am inside of me.

Playing with his first punk band, he mixed a prom dress with army boots on stage. Everyone wondered if he was a boy or a girl.” The power, in my mind, of the message of Christ, is that Jesus LOVES us; that Jesus ACCEPTS us, where we are, right now, at this moment. Why would it be different for RuPaul, or anyone else? It’s not. But I as a Christian have far too often jumped straight to weirdo and skipped right over top of the crystal clear message that the word “WE” means all of us. Even before little Ru was born, a fortune teller told his mom that he would one day be famous... It was only a matter of time before he figured out how. Playing dress-up was his favorite game, and that's where he felt most comfortable. Ru went on to study performing arts and then moved to New York to mix things up in a punk band. Later, drag was a way to express himself as an artist. He found success for himself, then wanted to help others find theirs. He inspires us to do what feels right and love ourselves." I just love these Little People BIG Dreams series and I look forward to a new batch each time. So when I saw a new batch appear with RuPaul in the mix? I knew I had to get it and read it! Ru was never someone who was going to blend in with the crowd, especially at school. It was one of his sisters who taught him that anyone can create magic if they try. This one focuses on RuPaul, an American drag queen, actor, model, singer, songwriter, and television personality - an overall glam entertainer. The author follows RuPaul through his childhood, his struggles of growing up and the difficulties in reaching the heights of fame.

After all, what better time in life is there to approach a developing heart and mind with the message of love and inclusiveness? In the early 1990s, RuPaul landed a record contract and released his first album, Supermodel of the World, while also starting a career in acting. On the strength of his TV shows, including RuPaul's Drag Race, and his oversized personality, RuPaul has become a beacon in gay, drag and transsexual communities. Early Life For RuPaul, the past few years spent writing the memoir became an unexpected process of self-discovery—whether he was reexamining challenging moments from his childhood, or simply recognizing how pivotal that turbulent period was in shaping the performer, producer, and entertainment powerhouse he is today. So you might think that as he prepares to put the book out into the world, RuPaul must be feeling more fearless than ever. But he isn’t—and that was exactly the point of writing it. “It’s pretty scary—although the scary part is really this part, where I’m actually having to talk about it,” he says, before breaking into his infectious laugh. “But I’ve always carried the truth of who I am inside of me. Yet that adaptability has made him enigmatic to the public. In this memoir, his most intimate and detailed book yet, RuPaul makes himself truly known. RuPaul and the U-Hauls broke up before too long, and Wee Wee Pole was formed in its place, performing around Atlanta. RuPaul also made his first move into acting during this period, appearing in uncredited roles in a series of low-budget movies. While these appearances didn’t help RuPaul climb the ladder of fame, he was never short on ideas to further his career. In one such push, RuPaul sold pictures of himself as postcards and created little booklets with self-penned witticisms and anecdotes.

Little People, Big Dreams, RuPaul, by author Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara and illustrator Wednesday Holmes is a child-sized account of a colorful, oak-strong personality who weathered the storm of the 1970s and 80s with the grace and wisdom of a queen. It's one book, you should definitely buy for your little readers so they can learn about this wonderful artist.
