About this deal

Generally, fixing a pressure switch on a caravan or motorhome is not a DIY job. Its probably something your service centre is going to have to assist with. All rubber and flexible plastic-based products, over time, become more brittle and stiff. However, another factor that can accelerate the ageing process is UV radiation from the sun.

Heat exchangers used to have a 10-year lifespan. Brands like Truma have extended this to 30 years, but since June 2005, any heater with an E1 mark on its type plate (European Directive approval) no longer has a specified lifetime. Ensure that all taps and the yellow drain-down valve are closed. The yellow valve can be found next to the water heater unit, usually under the front bunk. It is closed when the valve is horizontal. To fix this issue, you obviously need to remove the kink in the water pump pipe. However, that can be easier said than done. Yes, you can continue to return items as normal as long as you follow the government guidelines about leaving your house. But the main difference of concern between the pressure reducer and the floatation valve, is the risk of failure of the mains water pressure reducer compared to a floatation valve.

Both of these solutions should also help to clear limescale from the hot-water pipes and boiler. Of course, you might need to run the taps for a minute or two with fresh water after cleaning, to get rid of any vinegar residue. Sarson’s-flavoured tea, anyone? Grey waste Obviously, as with any filter, from time to time, they are going to need attention and maintenance. Ideally, an onboard water tank should also be drained down before driving. Each litre of water in the tank weighs 1kg, so a full 40-litre tank is the equivalent of a child passenger! Whale has tested its system and found it can heat enough water for a 14-litre shower in 11 minutes, and then takes only a further eight minutes to provide the water for a second hot shower. If you account for drying-off time, Whale Expanse delivers consecutive showers with virtually no waiting time.To supplement these hot gases, many systems have additional electric elements, to boost the heating or provide electric-only heating for those who want to save gas. This will increase your fuel consumption and might affect handling, especially if it is located towards the rear of the caravan, where the ‘pendulum effect’ is most potent. The OP specifically mentions low pressure with 'mains water running into the caravan'. Without clarity as to what that means or how it is achieved it is difficult to answer. You seem to have discounted all but an aquaroll with a submersible pump. Temperature sensors adjust the heating to give the required flow of hot water, and the hot water supply is carried in pipes to the tap in use. A smart fix for this, devised by DIY guru Rod Farrendon, makes use of a product called Pipesnaps. These are rigid, split plastic tubes, designed to be clipped on to household pipes for decorative purposes.

While this might not save a lot of effort, having a secondary water tank can mean that one ‘water-filling’ session will last you the whole day, or perhaps even a weekend if you’re frugal. Water is pumped in at one end, through the heating system and over the heat-exchanger fins, then out of the other end to your tap, when the required temperature is achieved. Hot water systems Some luxury caravans have an onboard water tank, which needs to be filled with clean water. Depending on the size of the vehicle, these vary from around 40 litres upwards. Furthermore, depending on how much debris and particles there are in the base of your Aquaroll, the filter may require more frequent cleaning. There are two main types of water pumps. Submersibles, which actually go into your Aquaroll water container, and onboard diaphragm water pumps. Submersible Water PumpsHow a diaphragm water pump works is the motor lifts a piston up and down, which is attached to a rubber diaphragm. One problem with these submersible pumps on flexible rubber pipes is that they can often curl up inside the barrel, meaning that the pump on the end is not fully underwater.

Alde also heats the water, and its 3020 model has a high output of 8.7kW when gas and electric are combined. Alde claims its hot water system can heat its 8.4-litre tank to 50°C in 30 minutes, when used on the Boost setting. How they work Hence the pipe exits the caravan and has to loop up and then down to get into the Aquaroll. This then creates a kink in the pipe. Hence the pump cannot pull water through the pipe. One potential reason the taps may not be working in your caravan or motorhome is a bad leisure battery. You do find onboard water pumps on some caravans, however, generally, its motorhomes which tend to be fitted with onboard diaphragm water pumps.Nothing particularly onerous. I tend to turn both pump and tap off (if connected) whilst away from the van these days. It takes but seconds ands guarantees I will not return to a water based disaster. The two main brands of submersible water pumps used on caravans are Truma and Whale. These two brands of submersible water pumps are very similar when it comes to flow rate and pressure. By comparison, the pressure reducing valves connect directly to the caravan, and if they begin to leak internally then as has been stated already that will allow the static head pressure of the mains water to be applied to the caravans pipe work. If the various Pressure Relief Valves (PRV's) normally associated with water heaters, but in teh event of a catastrophic Pressure reduction valve failure its would likely exceed the flow capacity of the PRV's and pressure in teh water system could build up to dangerous levels beyond the pressure rating of the appliance's and fittings. The water pipe connection on the caravan not only connects up to the water pump but provides 12V power from the leisure battery.
