About this deal

The Pathfinder Kill Team is a Kill Team for the Games Workshop skirmish tabletop game Warhammer 40,000: Kill Team, and it is available in the Kill Team: Chalnath box set. Gory Red for the red panels, Bright Bronze for the metals (just the big round dome things, basically), and Magic Blue for the lenses. Your Spec Ops are Mark for Strike, a mission to identify key enemy weak points for a future Mont’ka strike from the army, and Philosophy of War, which sees your team stalking an enemy and preparing for the right time to strike. They’re both pretty cool, and Philosophy of War rewards you for executing on Mont’ka and Kauyon objectives in an interesting way. So Are Pathfinder Teams Any Good?

With four units and seven(!) Drones to choose from, kill teams from the T’au Empire can be customised to a huge extent, allowing you to tailor your strategies to a tee. Then there is the counter punching plan where you are aiming to stuff someone’s turn 1 aggression. A much more niche strategy used against something like Wrymblade, where they want to aggressive come out on turn 1. You can pop Kauyon, giving all your operatives 2 retained saves, while standing in Bonded bubbles and starting on engage. This means when people pop out of hiding you are much less likely to be killed, but you can return the favor with 1 markerlight and a shoot. Giving your basic operative 6 dice on a 4+ ballistic skill, while retaining 2 dice for being in cover. Final Thoughts Their light armour and intense reconnaissance training comes in handy for rapid movement around the battlefield. Pathfinders are able to surge around the flanks of their foes and even deftly retreat from enemies who’ve got a little too close for comfort.

A game of Kill Team lasts about half an hour to 40 minutes, making it easy to squeeze into a lunch break or get several games in across an evening. Drones and pathfinders, for every drone you take you lose a pathfinder operative. However most of them have their place on the team depending on what you’re looking for. Pathfinders Drones are more specialised than regular Pathfinders. You’ll lose out on an operative that can Shoot , Markerlight , or interact with objectives all at once, but the right drone in the right place can boost your other operatives exponentially. Just remember to focus them on their purpose – a drone flying around and not doing its proper job is a big waste.

Overall the rail rifle seems like the better option here from a damage out standpoint, giving you good odds to push through mortal wounds while not having a chance of hurting your operatives. It also gives you the second best markerlight target on the team (next to fusion stealth suits). Melee – Tau are famously bad at melee combat. If the enemy does get in close with your Fire Warriors and Pathfinders, they’re gonna die. Your operatives hit on a 5+ and only do 2/3 damage with their fists, so you want to avoid being in melee combat. The good news is your team has plenty of mobility to help avoid melee.XV25 Stealth Battlesuits (one with a fusion blaster), 3 Pathfinder Gunners (two with ion rifles and one with a rail rifle) – this kill team has some utterly brutal damage output, making each hit all the more likely to take their target out of action.
