About this deal

Gifting books to schools is a wonderful way to support reading for all children. Teachers welcome a lasting gift of a book as a thank you gift to enjoy and to share in the classroom. Here are some schools we support: Duels, magic, and plenty of ghosts await in the third book of Huchu’s USA Today bestselling Edinburgh Nights series. A 15-year-old ghosttalker arrives at the worldwide Society of Sceptical Enquirers’ biennial conference just in time to be tied into a mystery. Fast forward to today, and Davina has an agent and a brilliant community of writers around her. The best news of all – she is now a published author, and her debut children’s novel Yomi and the Fury of Ninki Nanka was released in July. year-old dropout Bridge has always been paralysed by choices, by all the other lives she could have lived, and now, whoever she’s supposed to be in the wake of her mother Jo’s premature death. When she stumbles upon “the dreamworm,” she becomes convinced her mom is lost out there.

In the midst of a powerful lightning storm, Yomi witnesses the great Dragon King Ninki Nanka being kidnapped from the sky by a white mist that seems to tie him up as he vanishes from above. Inquisitive adventurer Yomi determinedly sets upon solving the mystery. When the siblings discover that Uncle Ola seems to be involved in some secretive meetings (that involves an emergency, unwanted stop at the cruelly named Beast Hunters Guild), they realise that Ola and his colleagues may hold the clues to what has happened to the great Dragon King himself.Five strangers—a model, a former nun, a couple in crisis, and an offender newly released from prison—have come to the unnumbered house to discover an end to life as they’ve known it. Placing their trust in their hosts, the five open their minds and bodies to an alternative experience. Not all of them will survive—at least not the way they imagined. A brilliantly original debut graphic novel that imagines a fantastical alternate Cairo where wishes really do come true. A story of three people who are navigating a world where wishes are literally for sale. It feels surreal, but amazing at the same time,” says Davina. “You know it's coming, and then it's like: 'Oh my God, it actually happened!'.

Andrew Aziza is a fifteen-year-old boy living in Kontagora in Northern Nigeria, who falls hopelessly in love with the first white girl he lays eyes on. But at the church party held to celebrate her arrival, multiple crises force him to go on a journey of self-discovery in the shadow of colonialism and communal violence in Nigeria. Every day is different. Some days everything goes right—you’re in the groove and feeling like yourself. A young boy is having one of those dreary days, and nothing seems to help. But after trying his grandmother’s way to shake the blues also fails, he discovers that happiness is easiest to find when you’re not looking. It's just nice to see engagement and support and love around Yomi. All those little 'authorly' moments: doing events, the launch, people posting about the book. I saw someone do a Tik Tok video on it! These are all the things I've dreamt about, and they're all now coming true. Ultimately it's been very joyful. I couldn't have asked for more.” Yomi’s and Kayode’s holiday with Uncle Olu is not going as planned. While it’s obvious that their uncle had plans to sightsee and treat the siblings to a really fun experience, it seems he’s distracted and worried. What’s more, when Yomi and Kayode encourage him to talk about his research into the Nkara, Africa’s sacred and grand beasts, it’s obvious there’s more at hand. Could it be concerns about the Ninki Nanka? This river dragon was awarded the role of guardian of the Gambian river. In 2006, a team of dragon hunters from the CFZ went to Gambia to look for the Ninki Nanka. They were met with varying testimonies from individuals who claimed to have seen the creature or had an encounter with it. Eyewitnesses claim that it resembled a Chinese dragon and lived in the waters. However, the children’s uncle won’t let them help in discovering what is going on so they take it upon themselves to find out what happened and save the dragon king. The first book in a duology, set wholly in a new world but inspired by modern Egyptian history, about two young women—Nehal, a spoiled aristocrat used to getting what she wants and Giorgina, a poor bookshop worker used to having nothing—who find they have far more in common, particularly in their struggle for the rights of women and their ability to fight for it with forbidden elemental magic. Now, after years of hard work, Davina is celebrating her debut book being published. She shares her thoughts and hopes for publishing becoming more representative for those who follow in her footsteps. Our recent BookTrust Represents research found the need for strong, continued efforts to further improve representation in UK children’s literature; both in terms of the diversity of published creators, and in the diversity of stories, characters and experiences represented children’s books, given the critical impact this has on their desire and motivations to read.
