This fictional Gull goes about his business with procedural detachment, devoid of consent or dignity. One of the most stunning and horrific scenes of the whole book is the sequence when Gull proceeds to eviscerate the recently murdered Catherine Eddowes’ corpse and takes on the Ripper persona. It flows well and the allusions at the start are explicit at the end, then even more so in the appendixes, of course.There is a similar effect with the other most prominent landmarks; Cleopatra’s Needle, and Christchurch Spitalsfield.

Printing anything in color was difficult, laborious and expensive, especially in cash-strapped 1980s Britain. The black and white was so intrinsic to the book that Campbell refused initial offers to color it, believing it impossible due to the difficulty of putting color inks on top of originally black and white artwork. George’s Bloomsbury Church in the original graphic novel, while it is an impressive structure it does not seem especially out of place in its West End neighborhood. It roundly manages to condemn many aspects of bigotry, racism, hate, and imperialism; entertain with a mystery married to philosophy and meta physic wondering, and the very nature of the genre. His body of work includes the groundbreaking graphic novels Watchmen , V for Vendetta , The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen , and Lost Girls , as well as the novels Voice of the Fire and Jerusalem and the poem The Mirror of Love . Of course, the abuse of medical knowledge, power and privilege isn’t confined to the actions of caricatured physicians of the past.
