Ond pan maen nhw’n dal llygaid ei gilydd yn y theatr un noson, mae’r ddwy wrth eu boddau o weld merch Ddu arall o’r un oed.

Lizzie’s father is almost killed and the girls feel it is their duty to find out who tried to kill him. One thing that sets "The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries" apart from other books in the genre is its ability to appeal to a wide range of readers. It really lures you in with it’s intriguing narrative courtesy of Lizzie, and perfectly sets the scene for the mystery while. And when their eyes meet in the audience of the Drury Lane theatre one night, both girls are sure they've seen something suspicious on stage. And when their eyes meet in the audience of the Drury Lane theatre one night, both girls are sure they’ve seen something suspicious on stage. It also emphasises rights for Black people, so I think it will be a good story to be shared during Black History Month. I loved the style of the illustrations, they fit the book’s theme very well and I was drawn to this book by its colourful and intriguing cover.

And when Lizzie’s actor father is nearly killed by a falling chandelier, they both know it wasn’t an accident. Overall, I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery with relatable and likable characters. Despite slavery being abolished, unfortunately black people were still being captured and sent overseas as slaves and I found this part of the story eye-opening but interesting to learn about as it is not an aspect in our history that I am familiar with. This is an engaging mystery of two girls, Elizabeth Sancho and Dido Belle, which is set in 18th-century London. An engaging illustrated early reader book, this is the first in the series to feature Lizzie (who is deaf) and Lucky the dog. The book takes a dramatic start as Elizabeth Sancho’s father, Ignatius Sancho takes the stage to perform The William Shakespeare play of Othello; he was to be the first black man to play the black character of Othello. She wore a gown of cream lace, the sleeves puffed at the shoulders, and a delicate silver chain around her neck. There are plenty of twists and turns, and just when you think you have almost figured out who did it, the author throws in another surprise.

And after saving Lizzie’s father from attempted murder surely there is no threat too challenging for this detective duo? I was hooked from the outset as Williams expertly takes the real life historical figures of two black Georgians Lizzie Sancho and Dido Belle and imagines them tackling a mystery of an attempted onstage murder! In the end, the characters get on extremely well together and both characters were needed in the process. The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries: Drama and Danger: New for 2022, a mystery-filled detective story for children, perfect for fans of Robin Stevens! I find this quite interesting as back then there was a lot of racism and the fact that he is on stage is amazing!

Throughout the book, Lizzie is motivated to solve the mystery because her father’s life was on the line, but she could never have done it without Belle, a smart girl who was the more anxious of the two. Wilkins already knew about them and knew that they knew too much already, so he broke into the Kenwood house and stole all their case notes.I heard Lizzie and Belle recommended on the radio for teenagers by a grandmother who said she couldn’t stop reading it herself. The next instalment The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries: Portraits and Poisoning is coming soon and I cannot wait to read it. The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries: Drama and Danger has been shortlisted for the Waterstones 2023 Children’s Book Prize! Later in life Iwould come into contact with more authors in the genre that portrayed ladies as main characters.
