About this deal

This is the reason why I don’t love reading series…I always forget the previous book by the time that the new one comes out. I absolutely loved The Family Upstairs, unfortunately this sequel didn’t have quite the same tension and atmosphere that I loved so much in the first book. Lucy Lamb, her brother Henry, and Phineas Thomsen, the son of the psychopathic control freak who invaded the Cheyenne Walk mansion, have been scattered by trauma. The Family Remains is a big, globetrotting book with a huge cast of characters and back stories and police investigations and so much going on. I can't explain how excited I was when I found out that there was going to be a sequel to 'The Family Upstairs'!

This is the sequel to The Family Upstairs , but you don’t have to read The Family Upstairs (which I barely remember) to enjoy The Family Remains. As my Goodreads friend Amanda said in my review comments, this is “the sequel I didn’t know I wanted”!Q: You must have felt you knew the characters pretty well when you started writing this follow-up, but as you wrote, did they develop in any ways that surprised you? Rachel Gold makes stunning jewelry and is trying to get her business off the ground, with her father providing both moral and financial support when needed. While I don't think it's necessary to go reread The Family Upstairs to refresh your memory, as the book does contain reminders, there's a lot of characterization and backstory that would be missing here if you jumped straight into this book without reading the first. I don't want to get into spoilers about this book, especially if you haven't read The Family Upstairs yet, but since this book will be released in the end of July, you should start picking up that book ASAP. Twenty-six years is long enough to doubt your recollection of things, to wonder if maybe things really did happen the way you think they happened” (69).

I admit to being underwhelmed by The Family Upstairs, but The Family Remains has cast it in another light, and I am sorely tempted to reread it to see if I feel any differently about it now. And Michael Raimes found murdered brutally at his house in France , the very same man was married with Lucy Lamb: one of the victims who has been raped and abused at the mad house! Her novels have sold over 10 million copies internationally, and her work has also been translated into twenty-nine languages. Q: The Lamb family home plays a large role in the first novel, but it’s being sold off in this one and we barely spend any time in it.

Since then she has published another twenty-one novels, most lately a number of dark psychological thrillers, including Then She Was Gone, The Family Upstairs and None of This is True.

Lucy moves Henry’s house with her two teenage children, reconnecting with her daughter Libby, looking for her own house with the help of inheritance money her daughter kindly shared with her and uncle Henry. We get bird's eye views on the family's next steps and their dark turns as they continue to navigate their lives post-trauma during their teenage years. Alix is a podcast journalist who interviews successful and fascinating women about their lives and careers. Libby’s boyfriend, journalist Miller Roe, has tracked down Phin’s location to Botswana, Africa, where Phin is a game reserve guide.I tried to give a quick recap of the events from the first book and extra information about new storyline. Libby and Miller are preparing to fly to Botswana, with Henry insisting he tag along, when they receive word that Phin has left and disappeared into thin air again.

Q: After Henry is caught by the police and then let go, he thinks to himself, “Chicago has healed me . Surviving the house of horrors of their youth to become functioning, if scarred, adults and Lucy meeting her twenty-five-year-old daughter Libby was really only the beginning of how things turned out for the four. Although you can piece together the story without reading book one ( The Family Upstairs), it is a better experience if you know (and remember) what happened in that book. As the story begins, we see Lucy, Henry and Libby carrying on with their lives after the events in the previous book. The whole impetus for the sequel was to show him finding Phin who was very much in Botswana at the end of the first book.

We also see that Henry struggles to overcome his past of doing things he felt he had to and not wanting to be that person again. While she settles in with her children and is just about to purchase their first-ever house, her brother takes off to find the boy from their shared past whose memory haunts their present. And as I told, the bones of a young woman found in Thames and another murder case in France may be linked to the Lamb siblings!
