About this deal

For blending, only the musts of the cuvée are used, so only 80% of the grape juice extracted from pressing. A blend of three exceptional vintages, Grand Siècle was launched in 1959 as a blend of 1952, 1953 and 1955. Founded in 1812, the Laurent-Perrier Champagne house was inherited and revived by Bernard de Nonancourt who had fought with French resistance in World War 2 as a leader of a maquis cell. The House was built around 4 strong convictions: blending, a unique style, the Chardonnay grape variety and innovation.

He found his inspiration in the rather stubby bottles manufactured in the time of King Henri IV, adding the monogrammed ‘LP’ shield. Laurent-Perrier was founded in 1812 by André Michel but it was his cellar master Eugene Laurent, who ran it with his wife, Mathilde Emilie Perrier. Bernard observed that nature would never provide the perfect oenological year though the art of assemblage, LP could in fact create it. This stylish champagne is a blend of wines from more than 55 crus or villages and between 10 and 20% of reserve wines are used.

Broad and supple in texture, with sappy red berry and blood orange flavors supported by a firm spine of minerality. Edouard Leclerc 1950 - 1984 | These were early days for Laurent-Perrier and Edouard would have been working very closely with De Nonancourt, one of their great partnerships was Grand Siècle. The house was acquired by the Nonancourt family in 1949 and, for 50 years, Bernard de Nonancourt dedicated his life to innovating and perfecting Laurent-Perrier champagne. Sappy and broad in the mouth, offering intense red fruit and bitter citrus flavors underscored by chalky mineral and white pepper notes.

A blend of 55% chardonnay- double the usual amount in champagne and at least four years of ageing gives this champagne its unique personality and ensures perfect maturity upon release.

Not my personal favourite style but it's certainly true to the ordained style and a lot of care goes into making it. Mathilde hired Alexander Fletcher Keith Mackenzie to introduce and market Laurent-Perrier in the UK. This rose comes direct from Laurent-Perrier in 2022, these magnums are original disgorgement in the last quarter of 2004 which would make the dominant year in the blend 1998 or 1999. Shows fine balance, with a vibrant tanginess to the flavors of black currant, strawberry, licorice and candied ginger. There are no clues about disgorgement date or base vintage on the label – I couldn't even spot a lot number – but Nick Baker of The Finest Bubble kindly provided the lot code of the current cuvée – LP53UK35219E – and managed to persuade the chef de cave to divulge the background to it.
