The peaking around 150 Hz provides a bit of help there but also can sound a bit boomy on some content. To summarize my impressions of Techno and Trance: the majority of tracks in these genres sound bad and unpleasant on DT990. Everything has a downside, and luckily, there are only a few here worth noting on these Beyerdynamic headphones.

To summarize: I am in love with these headphones because of the sound quality as well as the building quality and ability carry it with you.The former because footsteps and little sounds that are easy to miss are much easier to hear with these ranges of emphasis, and the latter because mixing with these ranges boosted will lead to less-grating mixes if left unequalized. In 1937, Eugen Beyer developed the DT 48, the first set of dynamic headphones, followed two years later by the M 19 dynamic microphone. Different music works best on certain headphones (for instance, listening to Beatrice Rana’s performance of the Goldberg Variations this morning I much prefer the rendition of her piano’s sound through the Amirons to that of the 770s (the piano sounding decidedly more lifelike through the Amirons), whereas with Thelonious Monk’s It’s Monk’s Time the difference is less obvious and, if anything, I’d say I actually prefer the 770s with their greater attack.

Originally I bought DT990 Pro to use in my synth set-up (without a computer) but the coiled cable quickly became problematic, so I plugged it into my computer, replacing DT770 as mixing headphones. Offering the same rugged and modular construction as the ubiquitous DT100 , but with an extended frequency response from 5-30000Hz for critical monitoring of music and speech. But, different music is not all: different recordings, different source equipment, different mood of the listener . You cannot remove the cable, therefore you cannot exchange the curly one with the straight one and vice versa. However after actually using the headphones, the coiled cable is actually better for me than having nearly 3 meters of cable hanging on the floor in front of my computer, where I sit when listening to music.

The build of these DT 990 PRO is almost entirely plastic, save for the metal band and yoke that suspends the ear cups.
