About this deal

Incorporate feedback from a range of sources, including from people with lived experience of my social work practice. To place a duty on local authorities to maintain an adoption service and provide adoption support services. The Adoption and Children Act 2002 is a law that allows unmarried or married people and same-sex couples in England and Wales to adopt children.

The adoption agency is to become the single point of access to identifying information as it is believed that they are the bodies best placed to provide the support and counselling needed. In any other case: The child must have had their home with the applicant, or in the case of an application by a couple, with one or both of them, for not less than three years (whether continuous or not) during the period of five years preceding the application. An adopted child may divulge when s/he is in placement, that they have been abused at some time in their previous history. An Act to restate and amend the law relating to adoption; to make further amendments of the law relating to children; to amend section 93 of the Local Government Act 2000; and for connected purposes. In these circumstances a new legal framework was needed to provide the child with a stable family foundation, which could be especially important with international adopting, but a way was needed to main the legal link with the child’s birth parents. One area of concern in the review is the question of race, ethnicity and adoption and it is acknowledged that, as well as being overrepresented in the population of children in care, it also generally takes longer for children from minority ethnic backgrounds to be adopted. For the first time, the legislation recognised the needs of birth relatives who want the opportunity to let their adult adopted relative know of their interest for contact. Hayes and Hayes favoured what is referred to as the ‘tie breaker’ approach where all other things being equal the closest ethnic match would be preferred.

The views and wishes of members of the extended family are also likely to be relevant, and the social worker must consider whom to approach.Ensure that no payment has been made to obtain the consent and that the mother has given consent after the birth of the child. If a foster carer does not have the support of the local authority responsible for the child, the foster carer can apply as a ‘non-agency’ applicant if the residence requirement is met. MedcoSTOP PRESS: A new RTA small claims protocol for whiplash claims comes into effect for accidents occurring on or after 31 May 2021. They can apply for this under Schedule 2 of the Adoption and Children Act, which has replaced section 51, Adoption Act 1976.

The first involved a ‘mild preference’ for ethnic matching and the second allowed for an ‘insistence upon the necessity of ethnic matching’ which they argue could be at the expense of the child’s welfare. The second stage relating to inter-country adoptions came into effect on 1st June 2003 and the third stage relating to Adoption Support Services was implemented on the 31st October 2003. Subtitled: A failure of implementation, the review considers a range of relevant issues including adoption, family justice, employment rights and building a better future for children and families. The role of the peer is not to approve your learning but to support and help you to think about how you can improve your practice. The new Adoption and Children Act 2002 came into force in December 2005, replacing the Adoption Act 1976 and the Children Act 1989. If a local authority foster carer has a looked-after child placed with them by a local authority or an independent fostering agency, and the local authority responsible for the child supports the adoption plan, the local authority responsible for the child should be willing to assess and approve the foster carer as an adopter.
