About this deal

I read this thinking "Hmm maybe I missed something," so I had a look through the shots and, nup - still don't like it. OF course, in my dreams I also want Sony to reintroduce analogue rangefinders -anyone for the Sony Auto S4 or the Sony Hi-Matic? Not to cheat on my first love, the Kodak Gold 200, but I can honestly say that I love the two equally.

Instead of degrading it for not being a special colour negative film like a Kodak Ektar 100 or a Portra 400, I like to recognise it for what it is. Even though C200 is a cheap color film, it has a cult-like following, and many people enjoy its aesthetic and choose it over more expensive emulsions. This is not a contrasty film, and the colours seem muted, cool, giving a calm effect to ordinary scenes. It is so important, as a fellow shooter, to remember our roots, and I think of that each time I pick up a film camera or two and go out shooting (even if a D-SLR is along as well). The point was to have fun shooting, to capture moments on film, and hopefully get inspired to create even more great images.George has a lot of experience shooting actual Fujicolor C200 film, and he experimented using X RAW Studio until he got the recipe right. But if a model has red lipstick, or a red dress, or red hair I jump at the chance to let C200 run wild. Although we had plenty of light when we shot this roll, we were interested to see how it would perform pushed to 400.

Although they may not be the “professional choice”, for you professionals out there, I’m still happy if my little project entertained you. Honestly though, if Fuji gets out of film altogether, then I see that as more place in the market for everyone else. Even if something did somehow go wrong and you lost your shots, dispiriting as that would be, at least you haven’t also wasted an expensive Ektachrome E100 or rare discontinued Fujicolor Natura 1600, for example. And although this may be Fujifilm’s one ISO 200 film roll, the company does take pride in their only child’s ‘refined sharpness’. In the shot with the bridge over the river Yulong, the greens of the trees and the water and the man’s red shirt back up the earlier claims made on those.Washington is depicted surrounded by 13 maidens in an inner ring with many Greek and Roman gods and goddesses below him in a second ring. A reliable general use film that gives you exactly what you expect, with whatever working camera you have, in almost all good light situations, and at low cost. I'm sure the C200 will be discontinued at some point soon but until then - it's definitely a nice alternative to the Kodak Gold 200. The discontinuation of consumer films like Fuji Superia 200, 800, and more, as well as AgfaPhoto Vista 200 (a rebranded Fuji C200) shows that the industry (or at least Fujifilm) is moving away from consumer film. And if you want the full details about the film, including technical information, read about Fuji C200 over on EMULSIVE.

C200/Agfa Vista were the first films I shot and looking back they’re some of my favourites (even if they’re not the best technical photos!

The Apotheosis of Washington was completed in 11 months and painted by Brumidi while suspended nearly 180 feet (55 m) in the air. The grain on this film is very apparent, so not great for detailed shots, however it can really add that vintage, washed out look for portraits. The first time I took this film was because I had an urgent need of negative film to take on a holiday. There’s a real cost to operating and maintaining this site, not to mention all the time that I pour into it.

In using C200 myself, I’ve found it entirely pleasing with a nice palette and quite acceptable grain for the extra stop it provides over 100 ISO films. Read our fourth edition of Lomography Newcomers and find out how the Barcelona-based photographer centers her practice on community building and collaboration. Despite the lush greens the yellows of the poles in the shade and light appear dull which is totally the opposite of Ektar .The grain is fine enough to give clarity, and yet not too fine to still give it the characteristics that are unique to film photographs. While it makes sense now, the move will most certainly have a negative long-term effect on the entire film community.
