They’re completely independent – when pressing one, the other one doesn’t move at all (as sometimes happens on dual e-switches that are this close together. When I look closer at the inside of the light I also notice how Fenix nicely puts its products together and properly finishes them.

The switch labels are too small to easily distinguish the padlock from the parallel beam lines, spread beam lines or combined straight and spread lines, so whatever setting the ring switch is actually on, you end up turning it one way or the other to find the one you want.

A. Yes, the light is internally waterproof and is thus still waterproof without the port cover in place. Aside from slightly missing the intensity specs (by my measurements) and the lack of a tripod mount, I can’t find much to complain about. The LR40R is powered by the included ARB-L37-12000 lithium-ion rechargeable battery pack or it can also use one to four 18650 rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in an emergency situation, however the less batteries used the lower the outputs available will be. A really low, and energy efficient mode is missing which makes the LR40R not that great for use indoors.
