About this deal

I'm sick at heart when my former fundie peers pervert reason and their own minds "reconciling" the Bible's obviously irreconcilable contradictions in ways that would be laughed out of court if they were applied to any other corpus of literature, or produce grotesque readings of passages whose meanings are often plain enough but that contradict what they want to believe, claiming the "inspiration of the Holy Spirit" as if it provided access to some kind of interpretive Holy of Holies rather than failing to constitute even the most patently miserable of excuses for their blatantly warped interpretations.

A few years ago, I settled on the Catholic NAB for its rigorous--and surprisingly fair--notes and commentary, and for its valuable apocrypha. Many new and revised maps, charts, and diagrams further clarify information found in the Scripture text. The New Oxford Annotated Bible , with twenty new essays and introductions and others--as well as annotations--fully revised, offers the reader flexibility for any learning style.

This thoroughly revised and substantially updated edition contains the best scholarship informed by recent discoveries and anchored in the solid Study Bibletradition. While a great source of discussion points, this SAB’s sassy attitude makes it for critics, not Christians. Despite the fact that the Bible itself is not great, I’m sure the translators worked really hard and did a good job, so I don’t want to leave a bad rating. Michael Coogan is Lecturer in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Harvard Divinity School and Director of Publications for the Harvard Semitic Museum. In addition, the intercommunication and echoes between the biblical books are exhibited through a rich assemblage of cross-references.

May want a different translation and looking for a study Bible with more connections to related subject matter and background information. But I also and really do have to wonder if in today's world, reading the King James Bible in a secular type of school setting would even be deemed as acceptable and as appropriate (although indeed, our perusal in English class was always completely and totally based on seeing and approaching the King James Bible as a work of literature, as a work of fiction, and not ever as religious dogma). Calvin Beisner • Bill Muehlenberg • Thomas Malthus • Josh McDowell • Mark Cahill • Ayaan Hirsi Ali • Kent Hovind • Creation Ministries International • Jordan Peterson • Steve Turley • G.Unfortunately I still can't see how decent, normal, intelligent people can fall for what is inside it's far too numerous pages.
