I think the story sounds for younger childs to abnormal and maybe they a little bit scared of Marthas situation. In sprachlicher Hinsicht ist dieses Buch meiner Meinung nach für Schüler eine gute Einführung in die englische Umgangssprache. She dresses plainly, and lives a life without modern distractions like computers or TV (the book was written before smartphones, so they don't figure either). When this book was written in 1998, the internet was only 5 years old so Scott’s abilities in using it are actually quite impressive.

It is a necessary book nowadays especially since religious fundamentalism seems to become increasingly obvious in our everyday life.However, even though I wasn’t the ‘target audience’, I actually really enjoyed this book (perhaps even more than Stone Cold). His first book ' When Darkness Comes' was written as a college thesis and published by Hodder and Stoughton in 1972. Things get hairy when Scott decides to push the limits and shows up at her home while her parents are both working. The insular ultra-Orthodox Jewish community did harbour and support a suspected child abuser and excommunicate the family of the victim. Anyhow, Scott doesn't like how the kids at school pick on Martha and tries to step in a little and help her out, which instantly paints a target on his back.

Through Ezra’s tribulations, I was able to explore the relationship between morality and religion, the value of friendship, the contemporary idea of ‘love’ and many more thoughts and ideas that I’m interested in.
