About this deal

Overall, the Minx’s USB input garners the best results for dedicated audiophile listening and accessing USB content via the Stream Magic app is just as easy as accessing networked media. The 'receiver-less' aspect of a soundbar setup does seem appealing, but if I can hide a receiver away in a cupboard (dealing with cooling as required) then it's definitely not a showstopper. Minx Min 12 compact speakers are encased in high-gloss lacquered ABS cabinets, with the special BMR speaker drivers mounted to die-cast aluminium exoskeletons, they’re reassuringly solid. Cambridge hasn’t refrained from striving to continually improve the Minx’s ability to portray that part of the spectrum with their BMR drivers now in their 4th generation. Digitally, the Minx streams a wide array of audio formats, including FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and WAV via UPnP, although bit depth and sample rate are limited to 24-bit and 96kHz respectively.

Playing via USB, Ben Fold’s piano notes have a far more natural ring, emphasising a deeper soundstage compared to the one conjured up via wi-fi streaming, and the crisp taps on the cymbals sound sharper. If you are unsure about a manual available in the desired language, just contact us and we will do what we can to help. There aren’t a huge array of connections – 1 optical, 1 stereo, 1 aux, is your lot – but it should be sufficient for most scenarios and the inclusion of Bluetooth streaming certainly opens out the possibilities for your music collection. Round the back another USB input joins an Ethernet port, while a third USB connects the supplied Bluetooth receiver. The volume that these tiny speakers can achieve is quite startling and we can happily crank the volume to uncomfortable levels without drivers distorting. Quite what effect this will have remains to be seen but Cambridge claims it widens the ‘sweet spot’ for stereo.

With its unique design and big stereo sound, the Airstream S200 is a worthy alternative to Cambridge Audio's speaker. The range benefits from Cambridge's Balanced Mode Radiation (BMR) drivers, which work like a traditional piston driver for low frequencies, while higher frequencies are produced using a vibration motion across the surface of the speaker diaphragm. So, provided you can find a suitable place in which to seat the Minx TV, it will reward you with some surprisingly rich and punchy audio that shows a good adeptness across its nominated disciplines.Finished in special, scratch-resistant, premium automotive gloss black paint, the X201 is the perfect match for most hi-fi, home cinema and TV systems. Minx compact speakers offer 180° sound dispersion, so they’re easy to position and sound great wherever you are – as there’s no specific sweet-spot. Each unit is discrete in both stature and design, yet they all produce a huge sound normally only associated with much larger, traditional box speakers. So, although the system in the picture looks nigh-on identical to the first version, there’s much more to this than meets the eye.

Finally, the BMR unit moves in a more uniform manner, giving a more accurate sound across all frequencies. We do find however that, unlike the Min22s, which keep unruly frequencies tightly controlled, the subwoofer does occasionally struggle. Small box big sound I bought 2 of these to run as my Speaker 2 options through my 1982 Technics amp and they are genuinely outstanding, both run separately or as part of a 4 speaker set up. When the characters speak using ‘Bene Gesserit’ – an ancient ancestral voice conveyed with manipulated sub frequencies – the depth and clarity of the X301 in delivering these otherworldly vocals is quite skillful.Already well established as one of the most popular small speakers around, the Minx MIN12 builds on previous models with a revised BMR drive unit. Once you’ve jumped through those hoops, the Air’s connection is confirmed by a solid green light on the back of the unit. With the company’s claim that this is one of the loudest wireless speakers currently on the market, we were ready for volume. Minx Min 22 compact speakers offer 180° sound dispersion, so they’re easy to position and sound great wherever you are – as there’s no sweet-spot.

You can wall-mount the smaller Min22 speakers or accessorise with our optional bespoke stands and brackets. All of these functions can be accessed from the Air app, and we have to say that the remote feels a bit like a bonus with its somewhat flimsy design. A Swedish public limited company (publikt bankaktiebolag) registered with the Swedish Companies Registration Office with organisation number: 556737-0431.If you want a bit more from your satellite speakers or are using these as discrete HiFi speakers in a small to medium room I'd go for the Minx 22s. It didn’t display album art, but this was more to do with my poor metadata management skills than faults with the app. Alternatively, a new product like our AXR85 receiver, or even an Evo 75, might be just the job to give you compromise-free hi-fi listening throughout the day. Whether you're looking to maximize your music or movie experience or add depth to your favorite TV shows and sports events, the Minx Min 21 is waiting to reveal what you've been missing.
