The commentary on some knots may fail to address their behavior when tied with modern synthetic fiber or kernmantle style ropes. Ashley has devoted eleven years to writing this book, and it is based on forty years of looking for, trying out, and thinking up new knots.

The knowledge gained shall expand your skills necessary for basic survival and you will find helpful in everyday living situation. The glimpse into the history that goes along with some of the knots adds even more value to the book. What it does not have is information about modern synthetic ropes and specialized knots that have been developed for them.
