This wine has long been one of our firm favourites, however this last few times we have been rather disappointed, aside from a bottle that was corked, we have found the Faustino 1 recently to be much less complex, less body and less oak on the palate. After the first swirl, one can perceive a first-rate balance in this red wine, as it does not stand out on the glass walls as watery or syrupy or liqueur-like. As a present, the bottle looks the part and certainly looks like you've made more effort than a standard glass bottle.

This did not taste like a Rioja Gran Reserva; even less like a Faustino I Gran Reserva; It's medium-bodied at best, high in tannin and lacking depth and taste. The Faustino was born in the 1960s, and the first bottle of Faustino I Gran Reserva Harvest 1958, went on the market in 1964.
