About this deal

There is only a minimum of light fall-off in the corners at f/4, which you will probably not even notice in your real-world photos, and distortion is commendably kept well under control too.

Oly 12-100 vs. 12-40/40-150 - Digital Photography Review Oly 12-100 vs. 12-40/40-150 - Digital Photography Review

The 12-100mm f/2.8 Pro features its own 2-Axis image stabilisation system. It also features Sync IS, which allows it to work with the excellent 5-axis system in any compatible camera body, like the OM-D E-M1 Mark II that we tested it with, where it offers an amazing 6.5 stops of compensation, surpassing any other camera that we've ever tested. As for weather sealing the em1 PL12-60 combo got pretty wet at Victoria Falls last year, with no adverse affects. Quite simply, this lens brings an unparalleled combination of high image quality, compositional versatility, robust construction and near-magical image stabilisation. It’s not one to choose for shallow depth of field, but if you want to shoot a wide range of subjects without changing lenses, from sweeping landscapes to close-ups, it can do all of these with remarkable ease. It’s an outdoor photographer’s dream. A shallower depth of field is definitely easier to achieve with the 12-100mm for the simple reason that it extends further on the telephoto end. Though the bokeh balls are larger, they retain a similar appearance. E-M1, 1/60, f/4, ISO 800 – 12-100mm at 100mmConsumer quality vs professional quality. Improvements in image quality in regard to resolution and micro contrast. This image quality extends from center to corners. Improved quality built. Weather sealing. Faster focus motors. The Olympus 12-100 f4.0 is a much better lens than the Panasonic 14-140 lens. The zoom is nice and smooth. Secure with good resistance. Just plain right. Here is an example of zooming during a long exposure.

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm f4 IS PRO Lens

Lens configuration: 17 elements in 11 groups with 1 HR, 2 Super HR, 3 Aspherical glass, 1 DSA lens, and 5 ED lens elementsI seem to be constantly worrying whether to trade it in for a 12-100 or not (I can't justify keeping both). LC-62E Lens Cap, LR-2 Rear Lens Cap, LSC-0811 Lens Case, Lens Hood, Instruction Manual, Warranty Card The presence of some light mist provided a bit of extra atmosphere for the image, which one might be forgiven for thinking iwas taken in some exotic jungle forest, when it is actually a wood just outside Scunthorpe in North Lincolnshire, UK. And anyone who knows anything of the UK will know that Scunthorpe is anything but exotic 😉 When comparing the optical quality of two zooms, it is important to observe how they perform at the key focal lengths – in this case, 12mm (the widest focal length they share), 25mm (a mid-range value), and 40mm (the longest focal length they share). For reference purposes, I also included images taken at 100mm with the 12-100mm.

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-100mm F4.0 IS Pro Overview

The 72mm Sensei LHR2-T72 3-In-1 Rubber Lens Hood is designed to keep stray light out of the lens and reduce lens flare. Olympus has been developing its PRO series of lenses since late 2013, the year in which the original OM-D E-M1 was released. The first lens in the series was the M.Zuiko 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO which rapidly became a favourite amongst many advanced amateurs and professionals, ourselves included. It was later joined by five more lenses, the latest of which is the M.Zuiko 12-100mm f/4 PRO, whose announcement coincided with the release of the E-M1 II. Not sure whether this is best asked here on in Native Lenses, so forgive me if it's in the wrong place!]Most of the 12-100’s use last year (90%) was on the Olympus E-M1 which I have owned since it was first introduced some four years ago, and 10% of its use was on the Panasonic GX80/85, a camera that I acquired last summer. I enjoy both cameras, but for me this 1.2 pound lens balances better on the E-M1, especially with the RSS L-plate/grip attached. The total weight of the camera, grip, and lens is 2.6 pounds. 2.6 pounds The resolution of the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 12–100 mm f/4 IS PRO was additionally tested on RAW files generated by the Olympus E-M5 Mark II camera and below we present the results in the frame centre and on the edge. They confirm precisely the results we got by analyzing RAWs from the E-PL1. The Olympus 12-100mm f4 M.Zuiko PRO lens has an impressive 8.3x zoom with the constant f4 and this allows for some seriously high quality imagery. This level of versatility is echoed in how lightweight and compact this lens is for such a large focal range. Not only this but it is also dust, splash and even freeze-proof meaning there's almost nowhere that will stand in the way of your photography when using this lens. Down to the Finest Detail

Field review: The Olympus M.Zuiko 12-100mm F4 IS Pro goes to Oz

The 12-40 doesn’t focus nearly as close at 12mm as the 12-100. Look at this comparison…but also take note of where the 12-100 is at minimum focus distance. You won’t be sneaking up on living subjects with this lens. 12-40 @ 12mm 12-100 @ 12mm 12-100 @ 12mm…wow… Nikon is weather resistant, that's why it's the only comparable lens so far. In Europe they are all roughly the same price, but looks like in the US Olympus is sold at MSRP, which is quite rare for a lens that has been on the market for four years. IEC Standard publication 60529 IPX1(applies when the lens is used with Olympus splashproof Body) /Dustproof construction If I need longer I take the O75-300 or, for Zoo's Safaris etc, the PL100-400 instead of the 40-150. Extended Manufacturer Coverage - 1 year manufacturers warranty, + an additional 2 years with protection planHoloholo55 Do be warned, Walter - the camerasize dimensions displayed are not always particularly accurate.
