I'm a big fan of the Ruth Galloway books, and this book provides a beautifully photographed and evocative visual guide to the landscape of Norfolk which features so strongly in the series.

When Ruth’s friend Cathbad sees a vision of the Virgin Mary, in a white gown and blue cloak, in the graveyard next to the cottage he is house-sitting, he takes it in his stride. A beautiful word that I encountered while reading one of the Ruth Galloway books is also mentioned in this book with a stunning photograph of a "murmuration" of starlings, (p.Elly Griffiths does a superb job of pointing out the different places in Norfolk where the Galloway series took place and the accompanying photographs made me wish I were there. I don’t think the book would be of interest to non Ruth Galloway fans – other than it might draw you into a very enjoyable series, but for fans it is almost essential I would say. Are they the remains of a local girl who disappeared ten years earlier – or are the bones much older?
