About this deal

Greene King’s second new IPA offering is the limited edition 5.4% Western Zeph West Coast IPA. This cutting-edge IPA is brewed using brand-new Harlequin and Godiva hops, as well as CF184, a hop so new it doesn’t have a name yet. The full bodied, hoppy ale includes rich malty characters, which are perfectly balanced with citrus hop flavours. The UK’s leading pub company, Greene King, has announced the addition of four new premium beers to its portfolio, as the brewer looks to expand into the craft beer market for 2022.

Level Head, a session IPA (4% ABV), and Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager (4.5% ABV), will be available in cans in supermarkets across the UK from March. The brewer also announced in January that seasonals ales will be available also in cask pins of 36 pints, later this year, which will support in offering more variety on the bar and with throughput in quieter periods of the week. Ice Breaker Pale Ale is currently available in over 2,000 Greene King pubs and also independent venues, as well as major supermarkets including Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Waitrose and Ocado. Both of these award-winning beers are available in hundreds of pubs across the UK, so wherever you are, make sure to nominate your very own legend and treat yourself, and them of course, to a free pint!” The craft and heritage of these beers are what makes them unique and different from other craft beers, as we combine our centuries worth of expertise to create distinct flavours that resonate with the modern-day craft drinker. We look forward to seeing our distribution continue to grow and more and more people enjoying Level Head and Flint Eye.”

FLINT EYE DRY HOPPED LAGER

We’ve twisted and adapted traditional flavour profiles and channelled some of Britain’s colourful folklore to create authentic, modern, and exciting beverages, perfect for a new urban audience right across the UK.” According to the data, Brits are dedicated to their best mates, with 63% describing them as a ‘legend’, and nearly a third (28%) saying they would happily lie for a friend. Trust is also the number one quality people look for with 41% of respondents voted it as the most important attribute in a best bud, followed by a good sense of humour (15%). Will Hemmings, Brewing & Brands Marketing Director at Greene King said: “According to our data, a pint of beer is the best drink to enjoy with a best mate, so we feel it’s only right that our customers can enjoy a free Flint Eye or Level Head with the legend in their life. Level Head is a session IPA that is light in body, but slightly dry with a medium bitterness and pithy aftertaste and has an aroma sitting somewhere between tropical and grapefruit notes. The Session IPA’s name is a nod to the legend of St Edmund, the brewery’s hometown’s Patron Saint, who was beheaded by Vikings in 869. St Edmund’s head was miraculously reunited with its body by a ghostly wolf and his sainthood was secured.

Ice Breaker Pale Ale is currently available in over 1,500 Greene King pubs and independent venues, as well as major supermarkets including Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Waitrose and Ocado. Alex Radcliffe, Marketing Controller at Greene King said: “We are thrilled to have secured medals for all three of our modern beers and it is a testament to our brewers and their skills that we have such a brilliant portfolio to share. Will Hemmings, Brewing & Brands Marketing Director, said: “Our new range of premium craft beers is inspired by Greene King’s 200-year heritage; but the recipes and tales have been reimagined for the modern craft consumer of today.

Brewer and Pub chain Greene King has announced the addition of four new premium beers to their portfolio, as the brand look to expand into the craft beer market for 2022. The Bartenders’ Brand Awards are a blind tasting, design and value-tested competition for spirits, wines, beers and drinks products in the bar industry. Flint Eye, Level Head and Ice Breaker have all been awarded medals for the taste, design and value of the beers. Cask beer is incredibly important to our history and as we try to drive consideration with a wider audience, by creating delicious and exciting beers, we also need to give teams on the bar the information to shout about the different styles and flavours we offer too. Providing our customers with tasting notes enables them to really educate themselves about the beer on their bar and get their guests excited too.” The awards land just ahead of the first anniversary of the launch of the brewer’s craft beers, Level Head, a session IPA (4% ABV), and Flint Eye, a dry hopped lager (4.5% ABV), which were launched in July last year and embody Britain’s eccentric past. Greene King Brewing and Brands will be launching its new craft beers Flint Eye and Level Head, into Tesco and Sainsbury’s this month, following a successful launch in Waitrose and Morrisons.

The pale ale’s name was born from the freedom given to apprentices to break boundaries of brewing within Greene King and develop the beer of their choice. The beer has an aroma of tropical fruit, spicy hops, a touch of vanilla and honeyed malt. There’s a big punch of fruit – melon and pink grapefruit – on the palate with honeyed malt and a touch of spice. The finish is hoppy and bitter but well balanced by fruit and malt and is pleasantly refreshing. This is probably the craziest thing I’ve ever done in camera. We essentially created a 360° projector out of the beer can, which seemed a straightforward idea on paper, but proved to be quite the head-scratcher when executed,” Blink Ink director, Balazs Simon, said. The new offerings celebrate Britain’s wild flavours and eccentric past but are very much designed for the modern drinker. Targeting craft drinkers who enjoy flavour discovery with quality they can trust, the new range is designed to be enjoyed primarily by customers in relaxed premium drinking outlets, such as craft focussed bars, gastro pubs and quality sports clubs.Level Head, the new 4% session IPA which is Greene King’s other core beer, is a perfectly executed hoppy IPA which has an aroma sitting somewhere between tropical and grapefruit notes. Light in body, but slightly dry with a medium bitterness and pithy aftertaste, this session IPA’s name hints towards the legend of St Edmunds’ – the original patron saint of England from who Bury St Edmunds takes its name – who was beheaded by the Vikings in 869. With a name that alludes to a folk tale, about a fiddler who gets lost in the subterranean tunnels beneath Bury St Edmunds, Subterranea invites you to lose yourself in its rich flavour and deep dark mysteries. On the nose, this deep, bitter, and intense oatmeal stout has an aroma of roasted chocolate and coffee, with hints of caramel and treacle.
