About this deal

Last but not least are the Christmas lights, which employ yet another new technique using bulbs instead of studs. There are no names afforded to the Elves, although the “leader” can be inferred by the red scarf. They have all sorts of cheery expressions on their face, which is exactly what you’d expect from indentured magical creatures. I adore this set. Sure I've complained along the way, there's bits I don't love, but that's because a perfect set doesn't exist. My complaints over the chimney, boring Minifigures, and small footprint are completely wiped away by how great this set looks and how fun it is to play with. It was a great build, nothing groundbreaking just solid fun, and Chris McVeigh's skills are on full show. Anyone who knows his work as a LEGO artist before joining LEGO will immediately recognise his fingerprints on the small furnishings. The old school PC is a great example of his ability to create small, simple, yet brilliant, mundane items. It does have its own unique style, with the tall roof, which has a sharper angle, and two windows that emerge out each side. Like all LEGO Winter Village sets, the Elf Club House comes with an assortment of mini LEGO models, which often reference current LEGO sets.

Winter Village sets have evolved to be more than a standard LEGO offering. Just like the Modular Buildings, their annual release have become highly anticipated within the more adult LEGO community. So much so that this year LEGO have included the Winter Village set in their 18+ category, you can expect the next Modular in January to be an 18+ set too. My favorite Winter Village set I've built is set 10254-1 Holiday Train, but there's one I don't have that I'd love to get my hands on, set 10235-1 Village Market.Bag 2: Onto the house. Immediately you notice now tight the floorprint is, a sharp contrast to the sprawling two story Gingerbread House last year. By the end of the bag you have the second floor in place. The wrap station is just flawless, I love it when small details grab me like this, they make a model so much more interesting. It's a shame we didn't get more space to flesh out the rest of the Elves living area. I really love the new LEGO Reindeer, and I wish they had included another one, so I’ll be hoping we see it used in future LEGO sets to make the most of this utterly gorgeous mould.

The first instruction booklet covers the first two bags of parts, and includes everything that isn’t part of the club house structure itself. It has the Christmas tree, a selection of gifts, a sleigh, a scarf-wearing elf and Brixen. These builds don’t really interact with the club house at all, so it could be a good opportunity to share the work around with a bit of family building. You know, if this set wasn’t meant just for adults. (I’m almostdone complaining about that.) The use of studs embedded into the tree itself works remarkbly well visually, and I love the feeling of discovering and building each year’s Christmas tree. There’s a candy cane pole hanging outside the front, with directions to Santa’s Workshop, and the North Pole. The Elf Club House is part of a collection of LEGO model building kits for adults who love clever design and detailed scenes. And, of course, this model makes a great Christmas present for your loved ones. At over 8.5” (22cm) high and 5” (13cm) deep, this building set for adults and families makes an impressive Christmas present or secret Santa gift idea with a display model to enjoy year after year. Only two of the faces have dual expressions, which is okay, but not great. As noted above, having a “sleeping” option for at least three of these characters would have been a nice enhancement.

I love how incredibly simple, yet poignant this design is, especially for us oldies who may remember actually using a desktop computer like this. This is an easy, easy set to recommend to buy, as you’ll enjoy every moment of the set. With LEGO being in such short supply this year, I wouldn’t hesitate in pulling the trigger on the Elf Club House, especially if you want to avoid missing out for Christmas this year.

Our difference

Elf Club House will be available from LEGO.com on 23 September onwards from LEGO.com or your local LEGO store. The Reindeer pulls a small basic sleigh, which has pearl gold embellishments which contrast nicely against the red and white. On the other end is a cabinet with a teapot on it, and a wrapping station. The use of the red and white doors as a roll of wrapping paper is absolutely inspired. Looking for Christmas or Advent gift ideas? This model building kit is ideal for LEGO® fans or any adult or family who’d love to receive a model building kit with a beautiful display piece to enjoy.

The build and the bunk beds alone were funny enough, but the addition of this play feature, was such a brilliant surprise that really tied the entire set together for me.I highly recommend this set, for everyone, you will not be disappointed by the end model, there's just so much that's great about it. Highlights of the set: the mini-built gifts and furniture (especially the wrapping station, just genius!), I'm in love with the lights and will likely be creating more for my Winter Village, and of course the Christmas Tree. At it's core it's the same standard LEGO have settled on for how to build a really great tree, but here Chris took a totally different approach to the outer 'shell' and in the process created the fullest looking LEGO tree ever! I admit I skipped ahead in the instruction book to finish up Brixen. The only thing missing was the harness to hook the reindeer up to the sleigh. It’s been an issue since this headpiece was introduced, and it’s kind of disappointing that LEGO haven’t been able to fix it to this day.
