I just thought that someone on here would be able to point out where this "so called line" is as the one I've found cannot be correct as it's far to wide open from my experience. Hi Liz, yeah I agree, the line is very faint and virtually impossible to locate! The only problem is that is this is the line... The spreader is designed around their own fertilisers and so it's easy for them to insure the amount spread is in the region of the setting they have.Measuring the output via m2 is how one should do it, in fact some spreaders have a collection box which collects the fert for measuring the quantity . However this little Scott's spreader is fine for Scott's ferts as the domestic ferts come with the settings. Specifications Hi Liz, yes I totally agree but to get it somewhere in the correct region I guess the calibration line is there to assist. What I'm trying to get across (perhaps badly) is that when I calibrate to the line I've circled in the photo the bar is EXTREMELY wide open and therefore the spreading rate is WAY over the recommended amount. If I calibrate to this it means the cord is as tight a it can go and I don't think this is correct.

Different fertilisers require different settings so for example MO Bacter requires a much higher setting than say the renovator pro due to the granular size. The granules are pushed out by the internal rotating bar and you walk at around 2 to 2.5 mph to achieve the desired amount.
